Are you using the HDMI 2.0 lead that came with the Vu+ Solo 4K?

So I assume that the Tv upscales the 1080p receiver output OK?
Does the Sony display the input characteristics when it picks up,the input? Don,t know if Sony does this but it is quite useful on my Panasonic to see what it sees coming in from various inputs.

It's a driver issue.

There was a similar thing when the Solo4K first came out with some Panasonic models.

You mean another Vu 4K driver issue? :)

If you want to look at it like that, then yes.

But it would be pretty amazing if the Solo4K worked with every 4k tv out there without any hickups along the way, seeing as 4K is designed to work only with hdcp2.2 and afaik, the solo4k does not have hdcp2.2

So the VU 4K is not future protected even for the next few years? I always thought that it was designed for the current 4K TV's which are hdcp 2.2 compliant (they say :) )

hdcp2.2 is copy protection.

If it had it, you wouldn't be able to record anything in 4k (so vu+ have bypassed it).

Unless I have completely misunderstood it (which is very possible too) lol.

... and I guess this is too complicated for me as well ... I was just surprised :)

just read this

Why not 2160p?
Now, it’s not as if TV manufacturers aren’t aware of the differences between 4K and UHD. But presumably for marketing reasons, they seem to be sticking with 4K. So as to not conflict with the DCI’s actual 4K standard, some TV makers seem to be using the phrase “4K UHD,” though some are just using “4K.”

To make matters more confusing, UHD is actually split in two — there’s 3,840 by 2,160, and then there’s a big step up, to 7,680 by 4,320, which is also called UHD. It’s reasonable to refer to these two UHD variants as 4K UHD and 8K UHD — but, to be more precise, the 8K UHD spec should probably be renamed QUHD (Quad Ultra HD). (Read: 8K UHDTV: How do you send a 48Gbps TV signal over terrestrial airwaves?)

The real solution would have been to abandon the 4K moniker entirely and instead use the designation 2160p. Display and broadcast resolutions have always referred to resolution in terms of horizontal lines, with the letters “i” and “p” referring to interlacing, which skips every other line, and progressive scan, which doesn’t: 576i (PAL), 480i (NTSC), 576p (DVD), 720p, 1080i, 1080p, and so on.

Now that there are 4K TVs everywhere, it would take a concerted effort from at least one big TV manufacturer to right the ship and abandon use of 4K in favor of UHD and 2160p. In all honesty, though, it’s too late. That said, the more important problem isn’t really the name; it’s where in the heck we can all get some real 4K content to watch. So far, it’s appearing in dribs and drabs on services like Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, and some proprietary hardware and software products from Sony. That’s not yet enough for 4K to really take off.

... and the lack of real content is not really surprising when standards are continuously being "upgraded". I just hope the infighting between the biggies like Samsung and others has finished .... but I doubt it :)

VU released the fix last year, go to AV settings and change color space from auto to rgb (I think), it isn't so much a problem with VU as there where many 4K TVs released before there was a real standard to agree to.

Also, I had to go to the Sony TV menu (Home)
In Settings go to External Inputs
Choose HDMI Signal Format
Make sure the HDMI input you use to connect the Vu is set to Enhanced Format (Requires a reboot)

As previous posters have said, set Vu resolution to 2160p, Refresh rate to multi NS HDMI Colorspace to RGB

I've set the HDMI signal format to Enhanced, set colour space to RGB and I now get a proper picture...BUT....get frequent "drop outs"

If you press the info button on the sony remote, you see HDMI 1 3840 x 2160 etc...

I get this frequently at times, infrequent at other times, only when set to 2160P. Also get a sound glitch when this happens, as if its losing the signal/handshake issue etc?

Tried a couple of HDMI cables.

With thee changes do you suffer no issues when on 2160p mode?
