I was wondering if anybody here has any experience using min coaxial cable for their sat boxes? The min coaxial cable is approx. 4.2mm i diameter compaired to the regular 6.0 mm cable.
I was wondering if there is a noticable drop in picture quality using the mini coax.

i use both on my boxes & the signal is the same no loss

Have used mini cable for short runs up to 10m. without any detectable loss, I suppose the quality of the cable would be a factor though.

yeah as long as it's good quality i've done a run in work of about 80m & it works ok

For a good quality WF100 type cable (6.8 mm diameter) the attenuation is typically 26.9dB per 100 metre length for a frequency towards the top of the satellite band.
For a good quality WF65 type cable (4 mm diameter) the attenuation is typically 44dB per 100 metre length.

The WF65 (usually dual cable - shotgun) is only suitable for very short runs.

For runs in excess of 100m its often recommended that CF125 cable (8.1mm diamter) is used (23.3 db per 100 metre) .

Remember also that you need margin for when it rains and the signal reaching your dish is attenuated.

With most digital TV its usually all or nothing. If the signal level is high enough the decoding will be OK, if not it will fail. Marginal signal levels will result in a complete drop out rather than a marginal loss of quality
