no volume control on HD channells

Hi Peeps
I have just noticed that the volume control on my tm twin oe does not work on hd channels, just seems to be set at high level .
The volume bar shows and moves left to right with no effect on volume control.
Seems odd as the volume control works ok on SD channels albeit a bit on the low side.
any thoughts or suggestions much appreciated.
