ETx8000 and slingplayer remote

I have just upgraded from an et900 to an et8000 but I have found the remote control for the et900 cannot control the et8000....the problem I have is that the same thing applies to my slingplayer virtual remote on my Laptop. It no longer controls my Slingbox....I have tried a Dreambox vitual remote and a VU virtual remote but none seem to work...Has anyone any clues to what I can do...

did the xtrend et8000 not come with a remote?

I have a harmony 650 it controls all my devices in 1 unit

Thanks for the reply blue. But the point I am saying is that i have a slingbox which i can control via my laptop via slingplayer which uses a VIRTUAL remote but the one i currently use is for my previous box an et900 and it won't control the et8000.

It just so happens that the ACTUAL remote for the et900 doesn't work on the et8000 either( but this is irrelevent to my needs, just a point I was making )

SO out of the 1000's of remotes it says it supports, slingbox doesn,t have a virtual remote for the Xtrend ET7500/8000/8500/10000 range which use similar remotes?

Nope...Unless anyone Knows different. I beleive you can custom one but you need a bin.file and despite searching all afternoon I haven't found one.

Why doesn't changing the remote for the ET10000 to a ET9000 work?
If it supports the ET9000 remote then surely the virtual remote will work?

It doesnt support either...I can't remember (It was 5yrs ago when i got it) how i got the remote for my etx900 it must have been Customised with a working bin.file...The remotes for Xtrend Boxes aren't on the list of supported boxes...I found a bin.file for the ET10000 but that doesnt work either..So im looking for one that will actualy work with the ET8000..

I think the idea is to change the remote control type on the new et8000 to be an et9000.

"menu/setup/system/input devices/configure remote control type" on your et8000.

Doesn't the et8000 allow you to do this?

Yep thats what I am trying to communicate ...... But obviously very poorly :) that way the EXISTing et9000 slingbox virtual remote should/must ? work with the et8000 Vix system with the remote changed.
Certainly my ViX et8500 supports the whole range of Xtrend remotes so the ET8000/10000 will as well :)

Having had a whisky tot, thought I would try again.
1. continue to use the virtual remote you have working.
2. change the remote for the et8000 to the same remote type by going into Vix as described above.
3. now you are using the same virtual remote and physical remote

Should work .... Yes? :)

First of all apologies...I was making the adjustments on the Slingbox NOT the ET8000....Ive followed your instructions on the Sat,Box but still no Joy with the virtual remote in Slingplayer....Sorry again but we have been at cross purposes...But I'm not the sharpest tool in the box. I shall continue my quest,,!!!

No problem .... But still not sure why it doesn,t work as the code in ViX should emulate the different remote correctly for at least the majority of the keys.
E.g. My wetek can be controlled by Xtrend , mut@ nt and at least 6 other remotes.

Anyway hope you reach a solution:)

ET8000 can stream to a remote device (iPad/phones etc) any where using an app so why keep sling box i ditched mine too slow and limited et8000 better all round option and less tech to work with
