My Vu+ Duo has been hit by the lovely red light and will not start up.

Im pretty sure i can but just double checking if i can use a 470uf / 16v cap instead of a 330uf?

After all its just got more beef behind it so should not be a problem right?

Thanks guys

no problem.Better is a higher voltage capacitor.Even better is a high degree capacitor (105 degrees Celsius)

Electrolytic capacitors tend to be around +/- 20% of the value. 470uF is an OK substitute for a 330uF. Physical size may be the problem if trying to fit in a tight space. If in the power supply always use a better quality component marketed as low ESR (Effective Series Resistance) or low Z. Also go for a component rated at 105 degrees C rather than 85 C.

Guys i soldered in the 470uF / 16v cap, its still stuck on the red light, now its worrying me as its soldered correctly.

The red light started after i used a usb to put the newest 'Vix' on the box, it just kept loading (the vix logo spinning on the top left corner of the screen) so i knocked the box off and back on again and it was stuck on the red light.

Any ideas?

Are you sure your receiver is genuine?

Im not 100% sure but should that even make a difference when replacing the cap to fix the red light?

Any input is appreciated.

Red lights on on the Duo are usually a result of:

1. Flashing a genuine image on a cloned receiver.
2. Failure of the capacitor/regulator.

How do i fix it if i flashed the wrong image? Anyway back from that?

The VIX image hung on the first loading page :-(

I was able to flash OpenPLi no problem on this box.

Was that a PLI image containing latest drivers?

Is your receiver a clone?

The OpenPLi i flashed by usb was - OpenPLi-4.0-beta-vuduo-20169114_usb.zip

Hope that helps you help me buddy.

I do not honestly know if its a clone or not, i did not buy it new :-(

That file doesn't make sense, it doesn't follow the file name format used on the official openpli forum, are you sure you downloaded it from openpli?
Try the latest version from openpli official site which is OpenPLi-4.0-beta-vuduo-20160123_usb.zip - notice the file name is the build date, if that doesn't work you have got a clone and latest vix will not work on it.

I cant use the usb though as it is stuck on the red light, any idea how to flash it another way?

You possibly killed the box by powering it off at the back. You should have connected by telnet to shut it down instead.

I have decided to go for either a 220uF or 330uF as the more i think about it going from the original 220uF to 470uF is quite a big jump and i dont think it will work, but i guess we will find out tomorrow.

Will let yous know how it goes.

i have fixed quite a few of this Vu+ Duo boxes, and some times the 470uF v 16 does not work, try with 330uF or 220uF and see if you bring the box back to life.
Vu+ Duo is a well know problem with this, but lately there is Solo2 with problems, and no one seems to find out how to fix.

cheers
