hi, where do i get a newer version to the one i installed last january, it states build 3.9.6 (166)

it doesnt automatically update..

ViX doesn't automatically update, you have to do the updates via menu, setup, software updates. Latest Vu+ Duo image can be found here >> http://www.openvix.co.uk/index.php/downloads/vu-plus-images/vu-duo/

You should do a fresh flash
