Hi

I am thinking of cancelling Sky and I've been weighing up my options. Currently I was thinking
I could do the following:

1. Cancel Sky
2. Sign up for Freesat
3. Buy a Linux box using a Vix image
4. Watch all the free to air channel (HD and SD)
5. Use Linux box to record, series link the TV shows.

Is all that possible? Also any recommendations for a box (I can use a twin tuner).
I work in IT so I'm quite technically proficient.

Thanks

Vu+ Solo2 is an excellent choice of receiver.

yes for what you are wanting the Solo2 would be the best choice as long as you do not buy a Clone

GigaBlue quad is better imo. VU solo2 is overpriced.

Lets be unbiased (if we can) probably all the named boxes in a similar price range(available from WOS) will do a good job (and often have the same board components inside), just be sure about your requirements and buy a box that fits your price requirements and looks good to you ... some people just like the brand name :) ... If it works for you ... great :) ... but they all run Enigma2.

Seriously the Solo2 is ace, it is a shame it didn't have a spare slot, I can fresh flash the solo2 a lot quicker than duo2 and solo4k, ps I have also had Technomate enigma2 recievers also.

For me the Xtrend is very slow at downloading/parsing CrossEPG data, whereas the Vu+ Solo2/Vu+ Duo2/Vu+ Solo 4K is loads faster. Better remote control. Quick boot up's to name a few.

I have to download from multiple countries, which is why I use xlmtv importer - I have never understood what people like about crossepg - but regardless I would have thought most people automatically downloaded during early morning, in which case it is totally irrelevant how long it takes :)
If I was to be really serious, I would start commenting on a certain Brands ability to deliver drivers that work 1st time ..... it would certainly cut down on the number of threads on this forum :)

Who Technomate, I know their drivers are so goofy.

I wouldn't touch Technomate's with a barge pole! [emoji13]

But if you have the CroosEPG set to download daily at 4am, it doesn't matter how long it takes because I am in bed

I've been using 2 TM's again for the past few months, one as a client box, the other as a server. Can't fault them on current images.

Why not? Their latest drivers have been sorted very well. On par with any other brand now imo.

I have a VU+ Duo2 but I must admit I bought it because I liked the design. Some people advices buying something else Enigma 2 based, slightly more powerful and way cheaper, but I've chosen to pay for design to be honest. And I am extremely happy with my box, needless to say.

Agree. No major issues with my TM's.

Their newer remotes although they fell light, they are very responsive and well laid out.
