Helo all,

Very similar to the recent post about crashes overnight, mine seems to freeze some time in the daytime. What happens is the unit is in standby, just as I left it, but will not respond to the remote. The time on the front screen was frozen at 15:09 when i got home just now.

I have flashed via image manager (not via USB) to 3.2 without restoring anything, but the problem persists.

I've got debug logging turned on, but whatever is happening does not generate any logs at all.

My EPG is set to download each day at 14:00, so I am going to try turning off scheduled download of EPG data to see if that resolves the issue.

Cheers

Do you have a swap file enabled?

Hmm good question Andy. I do have a 96MB swap file on the hard drive from a previous installation, but it is inactive as I had not configured it on the re-imaged installation.

Would it be a good idea to delete it and re-create do you think?

No need to delete, just enable/autostart it.

Some Duo units need to have the cache flush plugin installed and running.

Are you using mgcamd?

Thanks Abu.

Swapfile enabled, Cacheflush installed and configured. EPG refresh off.

No I am not using Mgcamd.

I'll see how it goes tomorrow.

I would be tempted to delete the 96mb swapfile and setup a new 256mb swapfile.

Also worth running up a telnet session and entering the 'ps aux' command to see if you have multiple instances of any applications running. I had a similar problem some time ago and traced it down to OSCAM. OpenVix was starting a new instance every 6 mins until the box ran out of memory. I had to simplify the OSCAM file name (removing dashes) to prevent OpenVix from doing this.

That is interesting chaser. I do use Oscam (as a client)

I see two entries for Oscam. Anything I should worry about?

root 509 0.0 0.1 7940 256 ? Ss Sep04 0:00 /usr/softcams/oscam -b
root 510 0.4 1.6 14728 2116 ? S<l Sep04 12:36 /usr/softcams/oscam -b

Thanks for your help Chaser.

My box has not frozen since I made the changes, so thanks to your help folks, my problems appear to be resolved.

Oops. Back again. Today froze at 12:15. No crash logs. Yesterday it crashed properly at 14:00, which is when my EPG refreshes. I submitted the crash log to the Vix address.

i am going to disable the EPG update again.

Just a note to say I've put this down to hardware failure. I tried re-imaging from USB, and also re-formatted the internal HDD. That worked for a couple of days but then it started freezing again. It now only boots intermittently, and the red light of death is back when it doesn't boot. I have had the capacitor and regulator replaced at a local computer shop recently.

So I am saying goodby to faithful Vu+ after 3 and a half years of service. I would replace it with a Vu+ Duo 2, but to be honest they are just too expensive for me. I've got a cheaper Xtrend ET9500 on its way.

Thanks for your help all.
