View Full Version : Help with buying new reciever
Hello everyone, I want you ask for some advice as I'm sure you guys know more about this stuff than me. I currently have a Skybox F5 which I have had for over 2 years now and it's still running well but I want to upgrade to something better now. I have been looking at a variety of different receivers but I really don't know what's best for my needs. I have a budget or around £150 don't really want to spend anymore than that and I would like something where I can record and watch another channel at the same time. Also I'm not really sure what all the difference is between a Terrestrial reciever, combo digital reciever etc... I'm sorry for the lack of knowledge, thanks in advance.
See WoS shop FAQ question 4 http://www.world-of-satellite.co.uk/faq-frequently-asked-questions-enigma2-openvix regarding tuner types.
For satellite you need DVB-S/S2.
Spend £159 and go for Xtrend ET8000 http://www.world-of-satellite.co.uk/Xtrend-ET8000-2x-DVB-S2?filter_name=ET8000
To meet your requirements (recording) you will need to add a HDD, so unless you have one, the box recomended above will come in at £200. You will struggle to find one for less, so you may have to up your budget.
Cheaper option is the XPEED LX2 http://www.world-of-satellite.co.uk/Digital-Satellite-Receivers/golden-interstar-receivers/Golden-Interstar-Xpeed-LX2-2x-DVB-S-S2-Twin-Satellite-Tuner-Enigma-2-Linux-HD
Does what it says on the tin, but hasn't got the power of the Xtrend ET8000. Et8000 can have internal HDD or external, Xpeed LX2 external USB only.
