With PVR the speed of the disk is relatively unimportant so a high performance HDD is not required. For a PVR a 'green' HDD is better. A green drive is optimised for lower noise (often slower spin speeds) and lower power so it doesn't get too hot.

What size HDD does your box take? You may be limited to lower capacity (2G) with a 2.5 inch drive - at a reasonable cost

EXT4 (default format on ViX), should handle up to atleast 16TB.
Feel free to try larger sizes & submit reports on how well they work, debug logs if they don't...

IMO, 1TB is big enough. Anything else you want to archive should go to another storage device/medium, preferanbly after conversion. If/when the HDD fails, you will lose everything.

An E2 box makes a good home server box though, using SAMBA & NFS.
Not the ideal solution for backups, but the larger HDD sizes it can use the better IMO.

I have the Toshiba 3TB DT Series (Low power high capacity) fitted to both my Duo2 & ET10000 and they are working faultlessly and in my opinion just as good as a WD Green

Rather than open a new thread on the subject, looking for a 3.5inch drive for a new box, so wondering what people are using.
Have been using a WD20EURS 2TB AV-GP drive for the last 3/4yrs with no problems, hard to get now but there is a newer model - the EURX series available in 2/3/4TB.
Have had 2 failures with standard WD green drives so don't trust them anymore, think RED and PURPLE are overkill for stb's.
Any suggestions?
