looking to upgrade my zero to a twin receiver. I already have a solo2, which is a fab little box.

however, through sponsors website I have narrowed this down to 3 receivers and looking for people to give me an idea on which of the three is best or to give me an idea to which one I should buy. but tempted on xtrend 8000, due to price. have my own HDD (3.5)

Hi,
perhaps wait 2 weeks. I think that the anga cable starts next week and perhaps your next STB of your dream will be presented there and you can use the time til Christmas to save some money:-)

As you pointed out yourself..vu solo2 wont let you down..as you have one you know it does the lot..
but if you fancy a change pay attention to the processor mhz etc as to keep it powerful like solo2
Every enigma 2 box does basically the same some just look nicer and some just do it alot quicker.

Why not Duo2 with dual tuners?
Earlier problem with Duo2 has been only two plugin tuner slots. Today VU+ is offering dual-tuners for both S2 and C/T2 use.
In practice that means my Duo2 today is having 4 C/T2 tuners with dual C/T2 tuners in those two slots. With S2 dual-tuners you can do the same.
I also have ET10000 with 4 C/T2 tuners. Nice and fast box with quite a similar specs to ET8000. But Xtrend does not offer dual-tuners.
I think when talking about quality VU+ and Xtrend are A-class.
But when we are talking about Miraclebox there is always OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) somewhere behind. Miraclebox is not a manufacturer as VU+ (Marusys) and Xtrend are.

cheers. I didn't go for the duo2 as the cost is slightly high than others and i dont need for more than two tuners. also I have solo2 downstairs with two feeds and only have two feeds spare.

thanks for the info on MB

VU+ is also bringing to market Solo SE V2 where you can use those dual-tuners. Seems to be a very fast box. Examon VU+ home pages.

Obviously everyone is waiting for 4k broadcast standards to be agreed (hevc, vp9) as well as providing hdcp2.2 support, with the iptv companies starting to get ahead of the game it's important the next gen receivers get it right.

As other people have mentioned, Xtrend provide good quality receivers, a reasonable track record and a "local" office in Germany.

"If" you only have 2 feeds and want a 2nd box then why not look at the Xtrend ET7500? Very simple (1 tuner on-board plus 1 plugin card - Samsung as per ET8500), has capability for 2.5 HDD and runs VIX without any issues.

For me as the "main" box the ET8000 (3 tuners)/ET10000 (4 tuners/transcoding) are traditional top class well built receivers, whilst the ET8500 provides a "new look", some neat hardware access tweaks and the same quality (although some people prefer the traditional metal casing compared to the ET8500 plastic casing)

ET 7500 is a slow cheap box without having possibility for twin-tuner.

Well those two boxes 7000 and 7500 seem to have same specs. When I`m talking abouta a fast box it means Duo2 or ET10000

I just attached one of these to a ET8500 running VIX containing a 3.5 HDD with 2 ext3 formatted volumes (normlly on a Ubuntu system) and it auto mounted both volumes and they were both readable.

.... But you probably need to be careful not to eject them and switch disks without formally unmounting and powering off.

I have read in other threads, that the ET8000 was advised as better value than the Solo2 - but this was before the solo2 priced dropped to £210.

Now that both receivers are the same price, which would you reccomend, and why? I realise Solo2 has transcoding capabilities.

Hi,
OK services on sat are rare but in a German board someone had quite a good point. H265 will be used with DVB-T2 in Germany, but it will also take years, and quite some files from the internet, even though only SD, were compressed using h265. So not UHD is the most important part but h265.

I'm just in the market for a new receiver to replace my XP1000 and just been looking at the news from Anga.

So far there is the Vu+ Solo 4k (ARM CPU with 11k DMIPs), Gigablue Quad UHD (25k DMIPs) with 4k, multiroom and transcoding and the Xtrend ET11000 with 4k but no other details I've seen yet.

The price of the Gigablue is looking like 499 Euros and spec wise it sounds like a beast. Have to admit I'm still no closer to deciding what I want - might just get a Mutant or ET10000 for now if the prices start to drop.

aido - I was thinking the same thing. paying out £400 for new box, is a bit hefty and would find it hard to justify. yes the box maybe faster and better, but my solo2 does the trick for me. so I could go for mutant, duo2 or et10000
