VU+ Zero Installation Nightmare

Hi all,

I've been fighting with the VU+ Zero for a few weeks now. The problems I have are as such:

- When I boot the box up with the satellite input plugged in, it doesn't boot. I have to remove it to get it to boot
- When I insert the satellite lead and try to do a search, it crashes

I have done the following:

- Installed latest version of ViX
- Reinstalled the latest bootloader
- Checked all settings are correct, 28.2 selected, LAN working fine, can VuCC/FTP to the box etc
- Latest Catseyes2 channel lists installed
- Latest Softcam installed

I was working down the lines of the box is knackered, but I've sent one back under the same circumstances as 'faulty' and bought another off another dealer. Box seems genuine. Also I thought it could be the satellite input, but I have a VU+ Duo using those inputs with no issues at all.

I really am at a loss, what is going wrong? I've researched all over and can't seem to find a solution.

when you install the latest version are you flashing it and erasing over the previous version?
are you going back yo any previous image's and or back-up settings?
what is your setup - dish, etc..

if possible try box at a different location in case its a bad cable connection f plug,if box works ok elsewhere would guide you better.

are you splitting sat feed??

a couple of things. did you install image and then bootloader or vise versa? if you have two feeds from the sat, try swapping these over? what softcam you using. should 2.3.0 or oscam, mgcand.

It's a standard Quad LND Sky installation dish. I'm confident that the dish is fine as it also runs my other Vu+ Duo without any issues, also a Freesat LG TV.

With regards to it being split - yes it is, however I'll try installing on a dedicated lead.

The image was installed after the bootloader, I've also tried installing a backup with all the software preloaded (softcams etc).

cactikid - I've tried reinstalling at a different location with the same issues.

you say box seems genuine. you don't sound confident. these boxes are very easy to setup and seem like you know you are doing. I would start from the beginning, unpluck everything and check wiring/cable etc. once done reflash everything from new and don't do no back up settings, but install everything from new. if this does not work, then the Zero could be faulty

Satellite feeds can't be split, this could be your reason.

A Quad LNB has 4 different set of electronics, one per channel. It is possible to have some outputs working and some not.



With regards to it being split - yes it is, however I'll try installing on a dedicated lead.


How have you split the output from a LNB? A satellite receiver sends voltages and control signals back up the down-lead to control each of the 4 circuits in a quad LNB. If you split the LNB output via a passive splitter to feed two tuners then each tuner may/will be attempting to send different voltages or tones up the cable. This is going to stress the circuits in the tuners leading to crashes and/or in the worst case, but unlikely, damage to the tuners.

It's also possible for a LNB down-lead to become short circuit if the f plugs have been poorly fitted - a strand of the screening braid touching the centre connector of the coax cable. With certain types of cable this may occur when you move it at a later date. In this case the tuner will object when trying to send a voltage up a short circuit cable.

Thanks for the replies. I think I'm going to have a go at tuning it on a friend's satellite. It's not impossible to think that a pre-configured box will accept signal, yet a fault is causing it to not accept new installations. I'll have a crack and report back!

I'm tearing my hair out and I'm on the verge of sending it back and getting a dreaded freesat box. Does anyone have any clues?

You may have a faulty unit. Have a word with your retailer, explain what tests you have done. Try any other tests they ask you to do. If those fail too, then the unit may need replacing.

Are you using the same splitter on your friends satellite feed?
