Wife just told me there was a power cut, might be the tv booster in loft.

Assuming UK terrestrial Freeview TV

TV channels 1, 2, 7, 8, 9, 120 (CBBC) and 121(Cbeebies) as well as many radio channels BBC radio1, 2 ,3 ,4 etc. are ALL on the same transmitter MUX (PSB1) so if you are getting poor reception on that MUX or the tuner/box has lost the scan information for the MUX you are likely to lose all those channels at the same time.

If you have previously had good reception, poor reception may be be due to transmitter maintenance. Do you know from which transmitter you are receiving your signals? If not type your postcode into Wolfbaine at

http://www.wolfbane.net/cgi-bin/tvd.exe?

to find the most likely transmitter.

When power comes back it may not have been a clean transition from off to on.
Turn your box off at the mains for a few minutes and do the same with the booster power supply. Switching back on again will give your box a cold clean boot.

Thanks will give it a try before buying a new booster.

A booster will not fail on just 1 MUX from around 6 off you are probably receiving. The booster is wide band amplifier without any knowledge of what is being passed through it - it just amplifies input signals irrespective of their DTV content.

If you know your transmitter just google for "transmitter name freeview" and the first or second hit will be a transmitter information site with details of engineering work which may explain the loss of a MUX (reduced power whilst being maintained etc.).

Have you actaully lost the channels or just the EGP for those channels?

I assume that the booster/amplifier is supplying all TVs via its multiple outputs. If it has failed, or is no longer being powered, it may still pass the signals through it but at a much lower signal level. If any of your TVs report signal level values do they now look to be low/marginal, You may even be able to see the signal level for the MUX with the missing channels by selecting that channel, even though you don't get a picture. Usually a loft or head amplifier has its power supply supplied up _one_ of the aerial down-leads from a dedicated power supply (wall-wart) and is often situated behind a TV or PVR box. Make sure that the mains socket that this is plugged into is still supplying power.

My loft box (amplifier/distribution system for UHF/VHF (FM/DAB) and satellite triplexing) get its power from the upstairs lighting circuit (via a small value fuse). I would need to check that the upstairs lights still work before assuming that my loft box had failed.
