remote control problem

i have a problem with the remote for my solo2
when i press the volume button there is no response from the receiver.
however, the green power light on my tv does blink when i press volume button on the receiver's remote which tells me that the remote's volume button is working to a point.
is there a way to program the remote to fix the problem?

i'll try new batteries, but wouldnt weak batteries affect all the other functions on the remote rather than just the volume?
