Box will record to NAS, powered external drive & many other options.
Just depends on your set-up.

Must the hdd be powered externally or will the usb port of the SE power a hdd?
Would appreciate help with the max hdd size the box can power / accept or would it be much better to just use a usb flash drive (say in the 128gb region)?
Newbie to all this so keen to learn as much as possible pre-purchase. Many thanks.

External HDD will need to be powered externally.

You can even buy 256, 512GB usb flash drives, I would be tempted with one of those tbh.

A 2.5 inch mechanical HDD will be fine.
