im just wondering what a software update does
and when do you have to do them thanks

When a software update is available you will see a green or red flashing icon in the info bar on your screen. A update is not mandatory but it is recommended and can contain any thing from hardware driver updates to image or skin updates and bug fixes.

in the update menu you can take a look at the changes and decide then if it is important for you before you do an update.
