Hi
Can someone please confirm what build XBMC / Kodi plugin is in or going to be in and what it is going to be called.
Presume will be in extentions or systemplugins settings.
Changelogs state 133 - 136

VU+ Duo2 Ver Apollo 138

Many thanks

It was planned for 138 but there have been a couple of builds to rectify unforeseen other bugs, so who can say 100%

Sicilian

It will be in soon, we're not going to pre-install the plugin into the builds like others have done, we want it to be an optional plugin via plugin feeds.

Is it going to be VU+ only or for all boxes?

Larry-G
06-02-15, 22:42
Is it going to be VU+ only or for all boxes?

only for the supported Vu+ receivers, Vu+ Solo2, Vu+ Solo SE and Vu+ Duo2.

Chris205gti
06-02-15, 22:52
Is that because of drivers?

Larry-G
06-02-15, 22:54
Is that because of drivers?

no it's because it has been developed by Vu+ for only those receivers, and there is nothing we can do about it.

There is a kodidirect plugin generally available now.
Presumably your reference to "Kodi plugin" is something else?

Yes it will be in the extensions sub directory in the plugin feeds, under the name XBMC or XBMC Launcher. we have it working as a standalone plugin in our development image and have made a few extra tweaks for the public release version which is being rebuilt now, but it is still only for those receivers Vu+ have released it for as it needs full OpenGL support and most receivers dont have the hardware for it.

Hi,

I've just installed the new XBMC pulugin in build 142 on a VU+ Solo2. It installed a load of stuff and I've got the XBMC Launcher icon appeared in my installed Plugins list, butr when I click on it, the screen goes blank for a second and then back to the pluigins list.

Am I supposed to install something else as well ?

Cheers

Larry-G
10-02-15, 15:37
No. All the dependencies should be installed with the initial plugin. Try rebooting the receiver and see if that sorts it.

Hi,
after installation you can check with

opkg list-installed | grep xbmc

if vuplus-xbmc and enigma2-plugin-extensions-xbmc are both installed. First is the real binary and second the starter plugin. If you want to dig deeper you can do

init 4
enigma2

then start XBMC and watch in telnet window if there is an error and if yes which.

Fresh flashed again & now xbmc launcher is not in extensions?

Make sure you flash build 142.

Larry-G
10-02-15, 17:15
Make sure you are not installing a settings backup. I have a telnet command that will allow you to install the plugin that way but it's on my laptop and I am currently on the iPad. As soon as I get the chance I'll post it up for you.

yes but id like to see it not in extensions as it doenst make sense at all..
if it installed via telnet then it must be in extensions.

does anyone actually use xbmc for its original intended purpose of cataloging local media or does everyone use it just for dodgey streams?

i bet the majority of complaints will come from dodgey stream users.

i bet the majority of complaints will come from dodgey stream users.

I could not agree more, as for using it to catalog local media, from my observations so far it's crap at handling .TS streams as recorded by the Solo2 it self.

DaMacFunkin
10-02-15, 18:23
@phoenix... That is inherent in a xbmc stand alone, the TV scraper isn't always good with the titles of the recorded .ts and fast forward rewind of the .ts can cause crashes and hang ups, even a really powerful system.

philmein

Play back is fine unless you pause or try to forward wind or rewind the recording.

when playing back prerecorded ts-streams xbmc seems to use the standard media player and not using the proper xbmc player
iplayer on the xbmc plugin uses the xbmc player.

there is no sound xbmc player hope vu+ fix it someday

I installed XBMC Launcher on image vix image build 142 (vu+ duo2) and when I pressed it to run it, the screen went black, nothing happened for 5 seconds, and it just returns to the plugin browser page.
Yes I rebooted after I installed it but it just did not work, tried numerous times.
I uninstalled it and after a reboot its still there in the plugins section even tho when I press the remove plugins button its not there,
So it must be removed but its still showing on the plugin browser page
Am I missing something?

Try installing it with the telnet command I posted earlier and see if that works, and was your image a fresh flash to Build 142 (with or without a settings restore) or a online update from a previous image ?. all of this information however trivial it seems is vital to us when looking into possible bug reports.

Installing with telnet command had the same results. It was an image upgrade from build 138 with a setting backup,
unfortunately I won't be doing a clean install just to see if it makes a difference, haven't got the time or interest.
Hope that info is of use.

But does it actually play your films back? I've scraped my collection on my NAS and it has found information for them all, all my films are 1080p blu-ray ripped mkvs mostly with DTS core audio, none of them play, the player just sits at 0:00 and does nothing, it doesn't crash because if I press stop it takes me back to my list.
It looks like xbmc but if it can't play films then it ain't.

Well none are playing back on my solo2 from my nas.
I have just mounted my NAS via SMB directly in the solo2 and all Mkv files play fine so defo a bug with xbmc media playback.
As soon as I reload xbmc and try to play the same files they don't play.

I've not done a fresh flash however from what everyone else has said I'm guessing that it would work, as all others who had the same issue it would appear that a fresh install fixed it for them.

Is the official answer then that to use XBMC a fresh install is needed?.

Hi,
btw. XBMC and Solo2. Make sure that you have a lot of free flash. I installed it yesterday on my Solo2s with around 45MB of free flash and both installations stopped with device full.

To the play problem. Mount your NAS through E2 and navigate in XBMC to /media/autofs or /media/net NFS and CIFS inside of XBMC are still not perfect.

So I got my mkvs to work from my nas by mounting in vix first then adding them in the plugin via root file system, and I realised I had totally wasted my time... The reason I don't use my vu boxes for Mkv playback is they stretch letterbox films to full screen totally ruining the aspect ratio, really VU, you should have fixed that bug before you tried to rape what is a very good media player.

11-02-15, 20:18
Hi,
for me it works quite stable. Vu did not release anything. It was an image team who got some beta images from VU. XBMC was hidden in the git so donīt blame VU. I think it is still not in the images on code.vuplus.com.

DaMacFunkin

Well the beta team need to get a driver from Vu that can correctly playback 1920x800 then.

For anyone wanting a quick fix for commands missing from the vu remote in xbmc download Yaste for your phone or tablet and use that when using xbmc.

I use Xbmc on my Android box, Minix Neo X8h and on raspberry pi and Windows and have been having a play on my Duo2 today
Getting the same no sound on some streams that others have reported .
Installed Istream but some of the dependicies are not met and some stuff not appearing that are on my other versions.
CartoonHD works great (both)

For a Beta its great but if you really want XBMC/Kodi for reasons most people do then I would go for a dedicated box.

I use very few plugins on my DUO2 and Solo2, I just watch tv lol but get very few crashes by just using it for the main thing it is built for.

DaMacFunkin

Not just for most reasons, how about just watching movies with the correct aspect ratio... A basic requirement for a media player really.

I disabled auto play next song in XMBC setup to get passed this issue.

As it is beta, this i9n one of the issues i also noticed
Think its due to the fact xmbc uses e2 player instead of internal DVD player of xmbc and conflicts with settings somehow

Has Kodi been removed from plugins? It was there at 12 o'clock today (7 March 2015) and now it's disappeared

Now when I go to download plugins/extensions - it's not even listed?

The message that comes up is "Some plugins are not available: Extensions/KodiDirect('skinres')

Also, is there an a list / explanation as to what each of the extension do? Can someone point me to where I'd find that please. I installed XMBC last week only to find it crashed it. Thanks.

Larry-G
07-03-15, 15:22
No it has not been removed from the plugins, but for you to get that error suggests you have tried to uninstall something which may have corrupted the plugin and as the receiver still detects it as being installed you wont see it in the downloads. as for the official XBMC plugin from Vu+, that is still a beta and closed source so nothing much we can do about it really.

That said I do have XBMC installed on my Solo2 with ViX and it works fine for me, no crashes.

Thanks Phoenix, Because of what you said I've backtracked and I've reverted to the previous software backup image, and now Kodi is back. :)

I think I know what I did to cause it. I tried to install a plugin within Kodi, that looked interesting. Kodi/Get more...IPTV / mystreamTV (I think it was that one)

It downloaded a software update and I installed it - after which MystreamTV never appeared and Kodi disappeared. I thought I'd post that in case anyone else gets curious about the MystreamTV extension.

Phoenix do you know if there is there a list anywhere explaining what all the extensions are and what they do? Curiosity sometimes gets the better of me so having a list of what they all do and if they are of any use would be a great resource.

I forgot to mention, I was looking at xbmc as I wanted a way of getting Netflix. From what I can ascertain, Netflix on Python isn't available. I was hopeful to find it on Kodi, but no.

I have found a 'not ideal' solution for Netflix, until I find a better one. I have an android box so I switch to that and run the Netflix app from that. I imagined installing XMBC would allow me to get me all the xmbc addons too - alas not not unless you know something I don't)

Also, if you have time can you tell me if there are additional Kodi extensions that work on a solo2 other than those listed in "get more..."

cheers, and sorry for the long one

Personally I gave up on XBMC / KODI on the Solo2 and bought a Amazon fire TV box instead for Ģ66, Don't get me wrong I am not poo pooing Vu's attempt but it's just not mature enough for my liking, plus I can run Netflix on the fire tv box perfectly where as there is way to run Netflix on a Solo2, KODI or not.

Thanks Phoenix, having played with the VU+ extensions, xmbc, Kodi, TS Media for 2 weeks I have come to the same concision that what it does best is satellite TV. I think I may uninstall everything else and just use it for TV.

The amount of times I have installed an extension only for it to crash is ridiculous, then having to revert to a backup (which may or may not have the recordings I have set up on the EPG). I have to keep remembering to do a backup first BEFORE I install any plugin. It's all to wobbly for me, and IMO should not be on the build unless it's as stable as the TV side.

Phoenix, can you get 1Channel iStream and Solar etc on the Amazon Fire?

Well thats what a lot of people tend to forget, it's a satellite receiver regardless of what sales speil the manufacturer adds on the box, it's a satellite receiver. every thing else should be considered as a bonus.

To be honest I have not used any of them but you should be able to install them via KODI as KODI is fully supported on the fire TV box by the "side loading" method.

Does anyone know the function of XBMC addon which is in the current plugin downloads. Is it designed to work independent or within XBMC, does not seem to do anything?

Which one exactly ?. If you have a Vu+ soloSE, Solo2 or Duo2 use the official XBMC plugin from Vu+ which is in the feeds for those receivers, for every thing else you can try the KODI direct plugin but I have no experience with that plugin.

Hi
Using a duo 2 and using xbmc, but noticed xbmc addon in the download section and wondered what it did?

The xmbc plugin crashes my solo2, so I de installed it. XMBC has recently been rebranded to KODI so I suggest installing KODI instead.

Although there about a dozen or so addons that can be installed within Kodi, they don't seem to perform as well (at present) as they do on xmbc versions on android.

TS Media has lots of xmbx addons built in too, quite a few such as solar movies, that that aren't available on Kodi. Hope that helps

Go into the plugins section then hit the red button and see if it's listed as available to remove. I have flashed my own solo2 dozens of times this last few weeks and XBMC was always listed in the feeds to install.

Hi.

Where do I find the 142 plugin for vu-duo2 and do I flash it same way as the vix software etc?

Thanks in advance

Build 142 is for the VIX Image and not the plugin itself.

Those addons you install via external plugins such as Kodi direct and XBMX are built and maintained by devs that most of the time are not intended for use on your receiver so sometimes they work and sometimes they dont. there really is nothing you or any image team can do about that other than to inform the relevant developers that their plugins may need updating. so sadly you are just stuck with it.

On the solo2 running hades10, is the kodi direct plugin the correct one to use?

Thankyou

No, look for XBMC in the extensions category in the plugins feeds.

I went to plugins, and downloaded this extension onto my solo2 running hades10. I've been stuck on this screen for 10 minutes and the remote control is not doing anything

i specifically mentioned itv player, bacause some video streams play back without any issue.

I have set AAC downmix to off and it makes not difference. So it's now set to on

There is nothing you can do to update the current build, it is a semi closed source build as provided by Vu+ and only they can update it, but seeing as this build was not officially released by Vu+ but rather leaked, you could be waiting some time for any updates to happen.

Thanks so much for responding. You're not the only one to tell me this but i got excited when i started reading this thread thinking there may be a solution. Having spent a small fortune on the duo2 box i contacted Vu+ directly and their response was "sorry we can't help, but try some of the forum members who may be able to"

So there is nothing i can do?? any way i can delete XBMC and reinstall?. Think i'll just throw the bloody thing out the window .

Thanks again,
Ali

Please don't forget that you've bought a DVR and that any other functionality must be regarded as a plus. Not the other way around.

Agreed, people tend to expect way more from their receivers than their intended purpose of viewing and recording satellite / terrestrial or cable TV.
