View Full Version : My box is acting weird? new image installed
Hi,
Yesterday my box randomly crashed and hasn't been responding since, stays put on the loading screen. So I took this opportunity to install a a new image from Vix 58 to vix 112 ( I think).
This is where the issue occurs. I know how to install an image, done it several times, but now when I install a new image using a USB stick it successfully loads the image but when I get to the basic configuration options at the start, my remote control goes funny. If I press okay the box does something else, I have no control over the options that I select. It's like the remote control has gone wild no matter what I press.
At the end of all the randomly pressed buttons by me, I end up on the 'auto timer help' page and unable to move away from it. I can see the buttons I press are getting registered with the box but nothing happens.
Has anyone seen this before?
Thanks
Try using a phone remote Luke the vu+ player app and see if you get the same behaviour.
i bet you not checked to see if new bootloader was available first,i have a duo and flashed bootloader first then did the image and not used backups.

When you did a fresh flash, did you do so without any settings backups etc?

Lartest bootloader is years old, so not much chance you have an old one.

I tried the latest boot loader, 3.0 I think still the same issue.

I will give this try but not sure what difference this will make?

The difference is that no R/C and no frontpanel are being used; the commands go directly to E2.
So if this works fine, the issue is probably in the R/C (although the frontpanel might be faulty as well).

LOL that's only the date the file was (re)uploaded, not the date of the file itself.
If there would have been a new bootloader, we would have announced that.
Believe me when I say that the bootloader is years old.....

Is this a laptop software?

Or simply via the webbrowser of any device.

ok tried the browser remote and i could successfully select options now. Slightly worried now, will this be a costly problem?
My remote was acting funny and doing things by itself. I took it apart and cleaned the pcb. Now its perfect and didnt cost anything to fix. The kids probably spilled something on it.

How did you open Your remote? I took the back off and can only see one screw... Not sure what comes off next
You need to prise the front off. Use phone opening tools or something like a guitar plectrum. There are more screws inside.

Knowing me I'm going to end up breaking the remote.
I'm going to order a new one from eBay but some are for around £10 and some are £20... Strange do u get copy versions?
You are probably better off getting an Original Remote from the Sponsors for £19.99 that way you know that it will work and once you have that you can mess about trying to take your original apart and use it as a spare

Yes there are plenty of crap fakes around. But at least try to fix your remote first - you might actually succeed.
at least he has a backup plan when he breaks it tonight:eek:open webif
Ok my RC is screwed.
Can I get a universal remote? And if so how do I set it up?

yes look at the logitech harmony range (600 and 650 should set you back about 30 quid and are amazing remotes).
Agreed. I've got a harmony 700 and it's even wife safe :D
Really easy to setup
I'm going to order the rc from WOS. What if the issue isn't the rc? Do WOS have a return policy? £25 Inc delivery is a lot for a remote.

You'd better order a Harmony. You can use that anyway, and much better than any device-R/C.

Okay cool. Which model do you recommend? One that similar price or cheaper than the standard rc from WOS?

A Harmony 600 does the tricks very well.

Had a quick search but not much joy. You know of a place I can buy one from? What about harmony 300i or a 525?

Certainly don't buy a 300. But a 600/650/700 is fine.
The 525 is fine as well, in fact it has been my long term favourite, but it is old. Not a real issue, but you should be able to find it cheap.
Be careful with second hand Harmonies; they may be crippled.
ok old RC was completely screwed.
Got a new RC, the usual vu duo RC. But the issue i have now is that the remote is tempermental, it works fine sometimes and sometime it slightly lags or doesnt respond when i'm selecting options? WTF is going on.
Sometimes the remote seems fine.
Any advice
thanks

From h3adersat, respectful ebayers
This is still an issue for me, any thoughts on what I can do next? Shall I return this remote and get a new one? Not 100% sure if it's the remote itself.

Well, I gave you my advice already....

You did thank you but the harmony is too expensive and I don't really want to pay that much for a remote that's going to get a bashing over time.

What should you have paid for a 600? And remember: in future only the Harmony on the table, no other R/C's.

Yes .
Yes .
Soory Rob, being thick.
So are you saying that Logitech will be the only company providing replacement "physical" remote controller's in future? Because there are App's that will do the same (if not more) than a Harmony.

No, of course not.
I'm saying that one Harmony will replace all the R/C's in your room. and as they are 'activity driven', you no longer speak to a device but to an activity.
So e.g. the activity 'Watch TV' will include TV, STB & AMP, and needs only one click to activate all. And the harmony knows to which device to send ZAP & volume commands etc.

Hi, the standard vu duo remote is not working a 100%, why will a harmony work? How would I know if it's the front panel that has the issue?
