Merry Christmas to all.

Appreciate that there have been some new boxes introduced in 2014 and would like some recommendations.

I have had a Vu Solo2 for the past 18 months from WOS running Vix and its brilliant; now need a Sat Tuner for my parents to replace the crappy Skybox as it interferes with the Viera ARC Link to the Panasonic Soundbar.

The new box needs to run the Vix image.

Two Options:

Option 1
Buy them a Single Tuner Vix Capable box - which one would you recommend? - budget upto 180

Currently looking at the Vu Zero (EDIT - just found out that it doesn't run Vix so not an option) and the Golden Interstar Xpeed..

Option 2
Buy a new replacement for myself and give the Solo2 to my folks - budget upto 300

Was lookinga at the GiGaBlue HD QUAD+ PLUS

Recording is a nice to have - not essential. (Sat Dish has a Quad LNB with two presented in the room).

if you intend giving your Solo2 to your parents "as it is still a very good Receiver and one of the best out their" I would go for the LX3

Reading up on the LX3 - looks like a good receiver - how is the quality compared to the VU+? I see some thread about Remote IR issues......

Also - don't see it listed on the WOS site - where do people recommend buying one from?

I do like the look of the gigablue Quad+ too - a good looking receiver.

The Mutant is also a very good receiver if you can stretch to another £10 it really is good and future proof
I purchased my LX3 from the sponsors they might just be out of stock

the Vu+ uno is still a good box, there is one in the sales section of the forum with HDD fitted for recording and it's a snip @ £150 :p

Cant find it on the WOS website. The VU+ Zero would have been ideal had it been able to run the VIX image.

The Nano-3 could be a good viable alternative for my VU+ Solo2 (although it looks like an 80s VCR). Question I have is about the quality of the remote and its IR performance.

Looking at 3 boxes at the moment - each with twin Sat + 1 Cable Tuner.

Technomate TM-Nano-3T COMBO - GBP189
GiGaBlue HD QUAD+ PLUS Linux Enigma 2 HD - GBP268
Miraclebox Premium Ultra Triple Tuner HD Digital GGBP308

Significant price difference between the Technomate and the others, would you recommend this box despite it 80s look? :) else I am tempted to go with the GigaB.

imish get another solo2 or the duo2, all the rest dont come close. you can get a solo2 on fleabay for 235. But if you like having a play then you takes your chance. I have the uno with twin tuner and hdd = awesome, also the solo2 with hdd and even better. did you add play tv as usb dtt to get freeview hd?

Leaning towards the GigaB Quad+

if you go for the GBQ I would buy a Lap Top Cooler to stand it on they do get rather Hot with having no internal fan but thats just my own opinion :)

Thanks for the advice everyone - ended up going with the Miraclebox. The GB has some driver issues that effect its PVR, Live Pause, etc - enough for me to steer clear. Its a shame as the box looks good and has a great spec.

Every single E2 based receiver ever made has had it's fair share of driver issues over time and nearly all still do to some extent.
