Hi guys,

Firstly, I apologize if this is in the wrong section.......

Is there someone on here who is an authority on other images than VIX? I am currently using VIX on my VU+ Ultimo and am having more problems than i care to put up with.

What i need is an image which allows to stop background scanning of the satellites for new services. I used to use BlackHole which was perfect for my needs and worked flawlessly, but i was tired of getting up every morning to find countless shopping, religion and p*rn channels reappearing in my services lists. VIX works fine in this respect but has other issues for me.

Basically what else is out there that will suit my needs?? Any advice?? Alternatively does anyone know if the option can be added to BlackHole either through a plug-in or patch?

All PLi-based images have the option to disable background scanning. However: the use of that option is not advised.

But seeing that you only have 6 posts on our forum, I can hardly imagine that you have that many problems.....
And I can assure you that the issue you posted here (http://www.world-of-satellite.com/showthread.php?42757-Channel-selection-problem-during-record) is not an image issue; otherwise more reports would have been made.

Thanks for the reply. Can i ask why disabling background scanning is not advised??

Which other images are PLi based other than Open PLi itself. I have tried to do my homework first but no-one seems to mention this feature on other images.

As for my other problems, i just live with them (or rather without the features). They can be worked around and to be honest i don't like to complain about someone's hard work when they have taken the time to create these images, especially if no-one else seems to have problems. In general Vix is a pretty good image - very attractive and easy to use bar the issues i mentioned. The issue i posted in the other thread is a real problem however and i will move back to that thread to discuss in more detail if anyone else has suggestions - if you say it's not the image and i know it's not the box (as already stated works fine with BlackHole), where do i go from here?

Thanks again for your replies. :-)

If you create your own bouquet(s) (or use ABM to create bouquets), then the fact that the service lists are updated during background scanning is less relevant because your user bouquets remain the same. I rarely look at service lists unless I'm looking for a new channel.

Please don't discuss several issues in one thread. I cannot follow other issues than the 'background scanning' this thread is about.

The function of backgroundscanning is that the tuner can find services, even if parameters have been changed or if the parameters in your lamedb are not 100% correct. The background scan takes care the box can still tune to them and will correct the entry in the lamedb.

As Fat-Tony explained you should really use user bouquets. The box will never create extra entries in there.
The 'all' list must be regarded as a database for the box, not for the user.

Hi, VTI image also has disable background scanning, and to all of those who said its not
important and create your own favorite bouquets , mmmmmm try this, imagine
your 7 year old kid pressing the number 735 or what ever in the remote and it
comes up to be a porn channel, and that append to me when i was using blackhole
image before, that is why i never ever use an image without disable background scanning any more

Do a scan, use parental control, and don't be afraid any more.
