View Full Version : Software issues with TM-Nano-3T Combo

I took delivery of a TM Nano 3T today from my local satellite installer.

Unfortunately the Nano 3T came with the standard software which I think is OpenPLi 4D.

Having tried using it for a few hours I feel a bit disappointed. It does not seem very user friendly.

For starters when I press the EPG button I get the following message
Cool TV Guide
New Version Is Now Available. please Upgrade.

But EPG will not load, so I assume it is because it needs to be upgraded?

The channel lists appear to only be alphabetic by satellite and free to air channels are mixed in with encrypted channels and there is no flag to indicate which are FTA and which are encrypted.
Selecting radio channels is hit and miss, I fact when I do find the radio channel list the only way to get back to the TV channel list is to reboot the STB.

I have not managed to work out how to delete unwanted channels yet.

It would be very useful to be able to list channels either alphabetic (as it does at the moment) or in frequency/transponder order.

Does this STB have hardware Blind Search or Software Blind Search?

I feel perhaps some if not all of my problems might be resolved by installing one of the software images which are available for the TM Nano 3T, BUT I am not overly confident about doing this.

I understand I might have to do a Factory Reset.

Would I need to realign my dish to find the various satellites again (I may not have explained myself very well here).

I doubt I would get much help from my local satellite installer because I get the feeling installing this box as it is currently was pushing them to their limits!!

Any advices/help would be much appreciated.

The 4D image is based on OpenPLI, it is not officially supported by OpenPLI. As fundamentals of E2 images are the same, please take the time to read the Vix manual (link in signature). IIRC there should also be a manual with your receiver.

If you view chanenls in the "all" mode, they will be listed alphabetically. You can toggle the encryption flag in chanenl settings menu, it is not always correct.

I'm looking in Setup now for Channel Settings Menu for the encryption flag but cannot find any option.

Would it be in setup/System then in Customize?

On the Vix image it is as follows, so should be similar
Menu > Setup > System > Channel Selection Settings > Show crypto icons

That was the long way round, but easy way round is while your list of chanenls is showing, press Menu, then select settings

Here are a few screen shots showing setup menus.

I don't see anything such as Channel Selection Settings > Show Crypto Icons
Or anything similar.

38898
38899
38900

Sorry somehow these screen shots are upside down. Trying to sort this out!!!!!!

Apologies if I have sent you on a wild goose chase. Looks like they are not there on that build.

If you are going to persevere, might as well as try latest image from 4D team

Most users here use the OpenVix image

The PLI image is terrible in relation to VIX. None of the buttons on the remote do what they say, with VIX they all work as expected. Honestly, I would put VIX on it at your earliest opportunity and never use another image again.

Thanks for your help so far.

I would be interested in trying the OpenVix image but I have never done anything like this before.

Are there any instructions for setting up a motorised system, the New Box Setup Guide appears to have instructions for a single satellite. I assume there are other things that need to be done for a motorised setup.

sorry if I don't appear very confident, but I'm not. BUT I really want to get the most out of my Nano 3T STB.

I really hope you have lots of patience !!!!!! Thanks again. I really appreciate your help !!!!!!!!

I have the same image as the OP and had the same issues.
I was unable to either update the CoolTV guide using the plugins menu or with a direct download from the CoolTV site on a usb drive.
What I found as a workaround was to alter the option in the "Customise" menu to "Show Cool TV Guide on EPG press" setting it to NO.
This resolved the error you get when the EPG is pressed.
Now exit out of the menu system.
To get a better EPG list, do a long press on the EPG button and you will get a menu to ask what EPG to use, but there is also an option to select your default EPG - if you use this to select "Graphical Multi EPG" you will then get something very similar to the CoolTV Guide when you press the EPG button in future.
Hope this helps.

Now, not wanting to hijack the thread, but the answer will also fit in with other suggestions, updating the image....
I have tried to load the OpenVix image onto a USB drive and load it onto my system but it does not work. I get the screen that shows it sees the update and I press the Channel Down button to initialise it. It seems to start then something flashes up that is too quick to see and it then loads the built in image - what am I doing wrong?

regards,

Brian.

OK - Time for the embarrassed confession....

I was pressing channel down on the remote, not the box.... :o :o

No shame in admitting that. Good news is that you now have a proper image and can get all the help you may need on here. :)

Can ask. Do you have a motorised system or a fixed dish?

I have a motorised dish and need to know what else has to be done after applying the OpenVIX image.

Thanks again BGW for this update. So applying the OpenVIX image was quite straight forward.
Do you have a Nano 3T as well?

Yes, I have the Nano 3T combo - but I have a fixed dish so cannot help with that side.

Please do not make this a thread where every single question is asked. Reason for this request is that if others are having a similar query it should be easy for them to look at the title of a thread and if applicable to them, read and progress from there. Hope offence has not been caused as it was not intended.

With regards to tuner configuration, the golden rules is that the software configuration must match the hardware connected to each tuner. Put simply, you have to tell the receiver what is connected to each of its tuners. Treat each tuner separately. We have a tuner configuration section in the Vix Manual.

If your "positioner/motor" has been aligned correctly, you should be able to use USALS motor controls ( sometimes called "GoToXX"). This means that the receiver calculates how much to move the motor based on the geographical co-ordinates you input. Please make sure east/west are correct. The tuner configuration is as pictured. For teh time being all tuners with nothing connected to them should be set as "not configured"

If using the following does not work for you, please report back.
