my vu+ duo keeps crashing

OSError: [Errno 12] Cannot allocate memory

This is usually fixed by creating a swap file on USB memory stick (preferable) or on HDD.

Menu --> Setup --> VIX --> Swap Manager

Moved to the vix duo talk, as previous posts indicate you have a duo, and it's about the vix team image ;)

Anyway, this is a fault to do with the checks in softcam manager to ensure cccam etc is still running. This has been fixed ready for release of vix 1.3 for duo and 1.1 for solo. Meanwhile, if you make sure you have a swap file set up, this should stop the crashes ;)
