Just bought myself one of these (TM-NANO-OE) and wanted to make a start by installing one of the many readily available images.
Having done this many years ago before on a TM9100, I have a little experience in doing this.

If possible, could someone please kindly recommend an image and quick instructions to go with it.

Much appreciated.

So far so good.
What is the default username password for connecting to the box from a PC?
Do I need to install any additional software?

An FTP & telnet client.
Default username is root & password is left blank.

username = root
password = none/non-existent/blank. For clients taht require it, any password will do.

You shouldn't nned anything else apart from

FTP client such as Filezilla
Set your default editor to be a linux compatible one. Such as Notepad++ (not to be mistaken with windows Notepad)
Telnet clients such as putty although you can enable sindows telnet client and use that
Channel editor such as Dreamset/Dreamboxedit.

Thanks again.
Do I need anything special for streaming to a PC or a tablet?

VLC on your laptop is probably best for streaming.
A few different apps available for your tablet depending on android or ios.
search your app store for VU+, they should all work more or less the same for any E2 box.
