I know mate. But warning others who are thinking it's cheap and will buy it that it's not able to be used as a standalone router for adsl :p Some people will thinking it's a bargain, but use adsl and have wasted their money :p

I have noticed pooface you have said that for a few of them but infact they do have a modem i have this same model it has got a modem for normal broadband users and the netgear website confirms that in specs

OK, sorry if that's the case, but what I saw in the specs it doesn't give anything in regards to being for adsl (i.e. without needing to use another modem), and looking at pictures all over the internet, it's not a specific adsl wireless router. Look at the pictures in this advert:

http://www.gumtree.com/london/17/68170517.html

There is no port for connecting an rj11 (think that's the correct cable) for the adsl connection...

Cheers, this confirms it. Here's the link:

http://www.scan.co.uk/products/netgear-bundle-wpn824-rangemax-wireless-cable-dsl-108g-router-and-wpn111-wireless-usb-stick

So, it is a good price, but if you were purchasing thinking you could replace your current adsl router, then by the looks of it, it won't. You will still need an adsl modem that can connect to the rj45 ports...

The port you've marked up for a RJ11 is actually a RJ45 port to connect a patch cable, to a cable modem for WAN. These do not have any-kind of built in modem :trustme:

But what ever the spec this a damn bargain ;)

ok i see where the mix up is the one on sale is a DG834 mine is a DG834PN and here is the spec from netgear

The DG834PN RangeMax™ Wireless Modem Router enables ADSL broadband subscribers to dramatically boost wireless networking coverage and eliminate dead spots by dynamically adapting on the fly to your changing home or small office environment.

that RJ11 Port on mine is what i used to use to connect it to the wall socket.

So it seems we are all right and wrong in various aspects

This can be used connected to a ADSL modem as a wifi router/4port switch.

Just for full clarification, the one for sale here isn't a dg834, it's a WPN824. It acts as just a 5 port wireless switch in effect (although I imagine it will offer dhcp functionality as well).

These are completely different to the dg834n and dg834pn, which are an adsl modem, with an inbuilt adsl modem, and usually only have 5 rj45 ports... (basically, they're the same, but without a modem built in to it) :p
