Just noticed today that my VU Duo instead of displaying the channel on the front panel now displays "VU+Duo" no matter what channel it's on.
Could this have anything to do with the Redlight of Death Repair.....Maybe I used an iffy capacitor......Can someone recommend the correct one, or maybe it's something else.

Thanks in advance.

Right......Bit of an update....Last Saturday I had the Redlight of Death issue.......Replaced original 220uf 16V 85c with 220uf 35V 85c....It fixed the Redlight of Death issue....And worked fine for a week, then I noticed the display showing "VU+ Duo" only
No channel info or menu info.......So today I went to Maplins and got the recommended 220uf 35V 105c....All is good again channel/menu info, etc, etc, etc.

So my question is.....How come ?
It worked fine for a week until yesterday.....Also, will this resolve the issue ?

Thanks.

reading the spec looks like it was a weaker capacitor so may work short time but could not handle the loads put on it long term

Just noticed this afternoon the display is again showing "VU+ Duo"
What can it be ?
I have turned the power off to the unit, and I'm going to leave it for an hour just in-case It's a overheating issue.
Do any members have any idea what this can be ?

Thanks.

Left the power off for about 45 minutes, switched the box back on and now It's working again.....What can be causing this ?
Could it be a overheating issue ?
If so how can I rectify it ?

Thanks.

I am not sure about the Duo but the Solo2 and Duo2 have a fan control in the system menu try downloading Fan control 2 in the plugins

you need it setting to ON that might be the cause of your problem mate

try downloading FAN Control 2 from the plugins that might give you the ability to alter the fan speed it's worth a try lammy

Thanks for that nsw9154....I took the advice and set it to on.......Does that just enable the fan to run all the time ?
Even in standby mode ?
Can anyone recommend a replacement fan for a VU+ Duo ?
Thanks.

I'll give it a go with the Fan Control switched On....Before I download Fan Control 2 (Will they not clash)

Thanks.

That will be why your Duo was overheating if you have had the Fan turned off for any length of time their will not have been any airflow to Cool it down
some receivers are designed to run without a fan but they will have provisions to disperse the heat my LX3 runs at about 42c with a fan but it has no Fan control
so it is either ON or OFF or in Auto mode I always have it set to ON
Fan Control 2 should take over so your fan should be adjustable turn it up when its warm and down when it's cold :D

your receiver in standby runs just as hot as when it's on all stand by dose is disable the picture and sound I sometimes just turn my TV off and leave the receiver on

The thing is.....It's always been like that as far as I'm aware......I only discovered these things last week when I got the Redlight of Death.....And then I had to change the Capacitor after a week due to the display showing "VU+ Duo"
So up until then I guess It's always been switched off....So I have no idea if/why the box has suddenly started overheating.

I have a new VU Solo2 coming this week......And I'll pass this box onto my eldest son to put in his house.

Thanks anyway.

you will love the Solo2 it's a very good receiver I only sold mine because I wanted 4 tuners and got the Duo2 and LX3 but if I ever needed a twin tuner again the Solo2 would be top of my list take care mate :D
