Hi guys

I have eventually managed to get transcoding working over the internet after a few tweaks. I have one question though , when I connect to some channels I get an audio commentary. Is there any way of switching this off. I have tried different audio formats but this does not help.

Any ideas?

I have also noticed from time to time when using VLC player the connected port displays as 8001 rather than 8002. I have port 8002 configured in the settings.

I have ports 80 , 8001 and 8002 open in my router but I thought remote connection would only use 8002?

On another side note is there any way to password protect the http webif application because as it stands anyone could ping/access my box.

I got the authentication working on webif by setting authentication on in the webif plugin. Changed the password with telnet so its all good there. Just need to work why I am getting audio description on some channels ?!

Port 8001 is for normal streaming, 8002 is for Transcoding.

Thanks for that handy.

Regarding the encoder options on the transcoding page. I noticed when I adjust the encoder 0 options this affects the 8002 transcoding stream. Would it be safe to say that by adjusting the encoder 1 option that this would have an impact on the 8001 stream ? Or am I wrong?

Forget that last post , I don't think that's right.

I am not sure what encoder 1 actually does?

The 8001 stream seems to be fixed on a higher resolution stream. I assume there is no way of changing the 8001 stream?

Next issue which I have seen before on some MTV channels is the audio is coming from another channel. Is there anyway to change the audio source to match the transcoding stream?

Video streamed over the default 8001 port is the whole stream as transmitted by the broadcaster, hence why you need a very fast internet connection to be able to stream this externally. You can not lower the bit rate of this stream as it is fixed, and hence why transcoding was developed in the first place.

Transcoding is where the box takes the stream and recodes on the fly to a lower bit rate, specifically for those who want to stream externally to mobile devices etc. the default port for this is 8002, this port is fixed by the manufacturer if memory serves.

Thanks for the info Phoenix , I guessed 8001 would be fixed. Have you any idea what encoder 1 does in the transcoding section does (just out of curiosity) and what could be the issue be with the incorrect audio stream on certain channels over 8002 (mainly Music channels)?

Hi,
your wrong. 8001 is without transcoding. I have no real idea when encoder 1 or 2 is used. It might be possible that PiP also uses one.

Yes that's what I said.

As for the audio issue not really sure as I don't stream or transcode channels it's a feature which for me is of no practical use.

Thanks anyway Phoenix. I will play about with it and will post a solution if I find one that is.

I have discovered that the audio on All MTV channels possess the audio from the MTV channel on ports 8001 streaming and 8002 transcoding.
