Which ever you buy make sure it has a fan.

if you can fit one, gigablue quad plus is a nice box as is LX3.

But for reliability and rock solid performance, the daddy of them all imho is the DUO2:thumbsup:

Gigablue Quad Plus does not have a fan and doesn't need one. Four tuners and internal HDD and temp never goes above 46C in my experience.

Duo2 has only 2 slots, so could not have 2 T2 tuners

The LX3 is a very nice Receiver I have both the Duo2 and the LX3 with 4 sat tuners fitted to both but the LX3 will let you fit 2 C/TT2 tuners and it will only cost about £360 from the sponsors, here are some pics of mine but with 4 S2 tuners fitted I originally had a C/T/T2 tuner in it but replaced it for another S2

My duo2 has 7 tuners as per the signature block. Works a treat.

Curious, are the tuners branded? If so who?

They are made by Samsung and the same tuners fit the Miraclebox Premium HD Twin receiver's

Nice pics, many thanks. They are the same "tin can's" from Samsung as my box but different part numbers. Would be interesting to know the spec differences but haven't been able to find anything - and your tuner boards are totally different from mine, so couldn't try if they are better than the typical Samsung crap I have..

They seem like decent tuners and work just as well as the built in hard wired tuners I get about 980 channels on 28.2e the same as my Duo2 no mater what tuner I plug the sat cable in to (IE-1 2 3 or 4) all give the same results

you do not mention what receiver you are using with the so called rubbish tuners you are using

The receiver is not the problem - over time I have collected 4 receivers from the same outfit and they have been excellent, and the latest in terms of speed and quality is the same - but the ability to continuously lock onto weak signals in a marginal area is.... The Samsung tuners are like many of their products fine unless you stress them.

how does the LX3 stand up against the Duo2, and what is the best image for Lx3

I am running Apollo 23 on both my Duo2 and LX3 and they are both running perfect, I would put the LX3 on par with the Duo2 and I would buy another LX3 tomorrow as the only thing that the Duo2 beats the LX3 on is Boot up time, the LX3 takes twice as long to boot up even though they use the same processor but in the real world they both perform faultlessly :D:thumbsup:

in my eyes the only thing that lets the duo2 down is only 2 tuner spaces

yes I think that was a mistake on VU's part it would have been nice to have the option of 4 separate tuners or even 4 twin's  :D

I have been leaning towards a 2nd hand ultimo, at least I could have a twin sat tuner and 2 T2 tuners

The ultimo is a great receiver, I use one as my primary family box, but be aware that Vu+ have discontinued this receiver so if it is second hand you may be left in the lurch warranty wise because the original seller has no legal obligation to honor warranties once the receiver has been passed on from the original buyer.

the LX3 is a fairly new receiver so probably to soon to know, but I have not heard of any faults or reliability problems and it seems to be a well made piece of kit
pheonix might be able to give you more information as he seems to have loads of receivers  :D
