Hello all. Looking to replace my solo2 with a new stb with cable tuner as well as satellite.
obvious choices were duo2 or quad +.
So I was wondering if transcoding is working on the quad + yet, and if it is , what is the quality like?
Thanks all

Working on XPEED LX3, quality good for transcoding.

Oh, never new about the xpeed lx3, looks great.
have you ever had a solo2? If you have how does the transcoding comapre?
Solo2 transcoding is only really good enough for mobile/tablet.

The transcoding of the Quad is identical to the Solo2; so the same picture-quality and restrictions.

Same on LX3.

Transcoding on Quad Plus is not working properly on ViX Apollo 015 for me. I get sound and a static video image on vlc. It definitely was working (although with sound synchronisation issues) with OpenATV. I think another poster @judge, had transcoding working on the Quad (not Plus) on early Apollo releases.

Hi,
when it is the same as in the Solo2 do you have framerate @30 or @60Hz? With my Solo2 25 and 50 are not really working.

60Hz is indeed a prerequisite.

I just tested it on Quad-Plus: Transcoding works in Open-ATV but not in ViX-apollo 15.

Thanks for all your replies.

60Hz is indeed a prerequisite.

Seems odd to be transcoding native tv frame rate from 25/50 to 30/60, but I presume this is a requirement of iPad, iPhone etc? (I don't own either). I can see there are situations where recorded files would have a US framerate certainly.

Hi,
no it is a limitation of the Solo2 as 25/50 is working perfect with Duo2.

as Sicilian mentioned you also have the option of the LX3 it is a very nice receiver and personally worth considering alongside the Quad and Duo2 :)

Has anybody had any problems with audio on the transcoding? I don't get any audio at all.

Settings are just 8002, 1Mbps, 30fps.

Tested on VLC Mac and iPhone.

Rob - just going back through this thread. Do you know if the transcoding has been fixed in Vix 023 for the Quad+? I looked through the change logs but can see nothing relating to transcoding.

I'm still in the same position where I get the picture, but no audio.

There is a new driver for the quad plus on
http://archiv.openmips.com/ The latest driver is dated 31/7/14.

This is newer than the driver contained in Apollo build 23. This will give you sound back with video but it only seems to work for about 10 seconds then the video freezes and the sound track continues on :-(

Thanks - I'll load them on a bit later.

Transcoding is quite important for me because I want Sky Sports News on a Saturday afternoon in Dubai, so would be ideal just to stream it from his box. My internet isn't fast enough for the full stream.

I think it is a limitation of either the chipset or the drivers.
On the DUO2 (and other boxes using that chipset) 25/50 does work, on the same (Android in my case) mobile devices.

Thanks for the replies. The driver update has worked fine for me, no problems at all now other than the audio is slightly out of sync, but I seem to recall reading there's nothing you can do about that. It lags for a few seconds every so often, probably because of my internet connection rather than anything else.

The only side effect of the driver update (or a coincidence) is I can no longer take a screenshot via the Web IF.

If you use Android, you might also give TiMote a try.
