I am still on Apollo8 and it is working fine and it was the last official version Downloadable from this site
newer versions might have slight bugs to iron out so I always wait for the proper release and do a fresh flash with backup restore
I suppose it's up to the individual but that's just the way I do it :)

@Zartmy
I wouldn't suggest that!! The update is to large or have bug!Here(GBUE) stopped by "deconfiguring network interface",lost connection to FTP and can't finish update.Now won't reboot and have to flash again!

A update from build 008 to 012 via telnet should work fine.

download putty or run telnet in a CMD window and use this command to update

init 4 && opkg update && opkg upgrade && init 6

I only update when the box is flashing for update.Unless there is an official release on the board in the image section.Still on 08 here and working fine.

Really?

Yesterday I have tried so with build 011. But then my solo2 was hanging by "starting" - I had to reflash with a complete new image 008 ... :(

Sure, that now with build 012 it will work?

Think I'll leave it at 8. Online updating is easy. Can never be bothered reflashing. Becoming more and more the norm now to reflash rather than just press the button lol.

just found out that updating from image restore 07 to 12 is working fine.Strange that updating from 08 to 12 gets the box stuck in a loop .

After having problems in the past with online update with solo2 and duo2 i only ever do download image & restore and then restore settings (couch flash).

I've just had this upgrading (opkg upgrade) from 011 to 012 - box hung, then on restart got stuck at "Starting.....", even after hard power cycle. A reflash (once I'd remembered that the key has to be formatted FAT32) + settings restore got the solo2 working again. Upgrade logs:

I tried to update my Ultimo through telnet from Apollo 008 to 012. It went fine until it was stuck to "Deconfiguring the network interfaces".
I had a WLAN-connection and obviously the update couldn't recreate it. The receiver couldn't be started any more. So, reflashing had to be done. No problem, however, since all the settings could be restored. WLAN-connection is always a problem, also using reflashing. My conclusion is that LAN-connection works and should be used when reflashing, now also telneting the update.

Same issue here on Gigablue Quad. Stuck on deconfiguring the network adapters. Box wont start, had to reflash yet again. Hopefully this will be the end of the reflashing.
