Whichever you get, best to get one specifically for AV/PVR usage.

They'll say so in the description. WD purple are one type, but read the reviews.

The one I have has been pulled out of of a $ky HD receiver. 500GB is fine for me.

I have a 2.5" 1TB 5400 rpm SATA II Toshiba fitted to my Solo2 and it is nice and quiet and stays cool
and have just ordered another one for my miraclebox premium,I fitted a 3.5" 1TB Samsung but have decided to fit that in a External caddy for my Solo2
I also had to get a 3.5" to 2.5" adaptor but that only cost £2 :)

Well, I really said that multiple times. Applies especially to 3.2" HDD's. They run at low speed (as a high-RPM drive makes no sense for a DVR), and produce less heat.

I use a Western Digital WD40EZRX 4TB Green Power model. It runs cool, is very quiet and works perfectly with no issues.

As for your question about which is better between a 2.5" and 3.5", the 3.5" drives are usually cheaper per GB than 2.5" drives and have higher capacities, it was one of my reasons for choosing the Duo2 over the Solo2
