as the title suggests does any one use this in vix and what is it for?

Simple explanation is that it is virtual extra RAM.

To elaborate on abu's post, the choice is whether you feel it would be beneficial for your box. On the older boxes (400mhz such as duo, solo, tm twin etc), then I would recommend to install if you are noticing slow downs with your box, such as lots of vix spinners etc...

But, especially on the newer gb quads, vu duo2/solo2, then I would say you would be very hard pushed to require the use of swap...
