I am about to buy a solo 2. I do not know much about setting the boxes up at all or what images are. When purchasing from the sponsor I have the option of having Inge installed. Black hole etc..... Wht should I do? Will having this installed mke my box already set up.?

image is like operating system for box,when they flash image the box is not ready for plug and play,few more extra things needed first.

Ok, so image flashing is the operating system. So what one do I need to get installed. What other stuff will I need to do after ?

ViX is the best image out by a country mile. The in built ABM (AutoBoquetsMaker) will take care of making a channel list for you and CrossEPG (ViX very own EPG) will sort you a 7 day guide out.

zeus will stop but if you check the change logs on this site they are working on oe alliance.

please look at the above tabs there are guides to setting up a new box, which is very good, also everything you need is in the vix feeds through plugin, once flashed

I think you are misunderstood what he means, what I think he meant was hopefully it's just the end of Zeus that is being stopped and not vix..

I upgraded from 3.X to Helios over the past weekend - painful would be a good word to describe it as it took a good 3 hrs to get the box setup the way it was. There really should be a way to migrate the settings.

3 hrs???? Really??? Takes 20 mins tops to set up from scratch, I tend to set up from scratch every month just so everything's clean.

2 to 10 minutes here, dependng on box...
The more you flash, the easier it gets...

same here, i rarely use a settings backup unless to test, but rather prefer to clean flash and setup from scratch, which for me is a 7 to 10 minute job tops.

The life of a beta tester when you get the time, eh.
Must have fresh flashed my TM2T at least 5 times today. Down to testing dreadful drivers, various bug fix py files, my own mistakes & me trying a new LNB on my dish.
Solo 2 also got flashed at least twice in same timeframe.
Now to flash the other boxes...

Yeah 20mins tops has mine done longest part is the scan for channels unless a backup been used !

Why scan the channels when we have auto bouquet maker, also various channel lists to download from the plug in menu??

Exactly.

When I set up a new image, first thing I do after exiting the FIW (first install wizard) is to run ABM for sky uk.
