View Full Version : [VU+ Duo] Legacy files, folders, plug ins - cleanup
Hi I have installed a few plugins, picons etc. i have noticed through FTP etc they leave old data laying around, is it safe to get rid of this or is there a plugin that does some kind of spring clean.
Regards

It's difficult to give a generic answer. Plugin-folders should be deleted on de-installing them; doing so manually when they fail to do so is generally safe (but no guarantee).
Not sure if you talk about other data? Very often plugin settings in the file etc/enigma2/settings remain in place.
just be aware that some plugins modify system files and subsequent deletion will have adverse effects

In fact it will always be very difficult, or even impossible, to de-install that kind of naughty plugins. Flashing will be the better solution.
Hi,
it is a bit like windows. If you want a "clean" image install only plugins you need/want, make a backup, flash a new image and make a restore without restoring the settings but with restoring plugins. Not restoring the settings is needed because a lot of plugins save their settings in /etc/enigma2. With dreamboxedit you can easily save and restore your bouquets and channel list separately.
ciao
