Bit disappointed in the sound fromn my sammy A656 and looking to get an AMP with 5.1 speakers.

Looking at the SONY STRDH810, any other recommendations?

Yes Sony STR-DA2400ES is a better amp for the same amount of money, been some good deals about on it at the moment try Superfi, Amazon and Play

Edit. Just noticed Richers have a couple in their clearance section at £149 cant go wrong at that price I paid £400 for mine last year

Have you checked out the Yamamha amps? I've had one for around 8 years setup with a set of Mordaunt Short speakers, been superb.

I have a Sony STRDH800, it's the best amp I've ever owned (I've had Yamaha, Kenwood, ect ect)
I don't know about the 810 but if it's anything lke the 800 go for it!!!!!!!!!

I am not tied to any particular brand but having little knowledge in this area, wanted to buy something decent.
I have a LCD, the VU, PS3 at the moment, so wanted something that could cope with that and be relatively futurish proof.

All recommendations welcomed

I'd recommend the Sherwood amps.
I have one from approx 7-8 year ago cost 800 and still going strong today, but i now packed it away for safe keeps as old is gold.
I bought another one merely on the basis it was a steal on ebay, a silver sherwood for £25.
THey don't build them like they did thus i stick with this brand on amps

I running a Denon.
Never had any problems with it.

But could really do with a decent sub to use with it now.

I would go for something that at least does hdmi audio, not end of the world but would make it easier to connect the duo up.

OK, now thinking of this. Only diff I can see is speakers and one foes HMDI 1.4 only useful if I go 3D

Both of them look a better option , i take it this is your first step into the world of home cinema sound , i have been at it for a while now and i'm very happy with what i have at the moment ,you soon start to feel as if you could get a better sound and the upgrading starts.

It depends if you really want 3d or not but it looks like either would do you, have you found any reviews of either.

Thanks for the info m8, but I fully checked it out lastnight/this morning and it turns out my centre speaker has blown. Stroke of luck I managed to find the same speaker on clearance and they're delivering it me today for £73 all in :)

Lucky, because a replacement set of mordaunt short speakers would have cost me around £400.
