Delete file from HDD

Having downloaded some movie files to my HDD, they do not show in any directory.
If i FTP into HDD i can see the movie file but it has no extension, so will not play.

I have tried to delete files but they will not delete, Any clues why?

How are you downloading them that they have no extension?
Try adding an extension using FTP & rename, do they play & delete then?

It won't let you?
No idea what files 1 channel downloads, but I'd just use FTP, add an .avi extension or similar.
Or telnet into the box & issue

mv /PATH_TO_MOVIE/MOVIE_NAME /PATH_TO_MOVIE/MOVIE_NAME.EXTENSION

When try to rename file no matter what you type when you press return. It does nothing and ignores command. What does MV command do?
