View Full Version : [VU+ Duo2] Cross EPG
Updated to Zeus build 005 today, but Cross EPG doesn't seem to be doing it's job.
Loads of channels have no EPG data at all - tried running several times, but no joy.
Any ideas??
ftp in and delete all instances of epg.dat then try again

ftp in and delete all instances of epg.dat then try again
But stop E2 first (init 4).
Where would i find that data to mate?
And how do i stop E2?
Sorry for being so dumb!!!
No need to stop E2 as epg.dat is only used on shutdown/restart but you need to do a restart after deleting.
Use Filezilla to login then select server on the menu bar and search remote files for epg.dat then delete any it finds.
Then do a restart Menu>Standby/Restart>Restart
Once restarted run Crossepg again

Well, technically you can, but it makes no sense.
If you do that, the data in RAM (which is basically the just read epg.dat) will be written to epg.dat again.
You can only really delete the epg.dat when E2 has been stopped first.
I FTP through DCC, where would epg.dat files be found?
Have you tried XMLTV-importer? Works for me much better then Cross EPG.
Ok guys, i've located the epg.dat file (in my hdd) and deleted after stopping E2 (init 4). Started E2 (init 3), then rebooted and ran Cross EPG again. This appeared to solve the issue, but as soon as Cross EPG had finished i had 'Tune Failed!' message appear on the screen and the picture froze.
After rebooting Enigma again the 'Tune Failed!' message is no longer there.
I hope this has cured the problem for good, and will just have to see if it stays away during/after auto updates etc.
Watch this space.
Got the same problem mate can you tell me what init 4 means cheers
Stops Enigma. Telnet to box
So I telnet init 4 and that stops E2
Yep correct mate, then once you've deleted the epg.dat file. Restart with init 3
Then restart box (menu, standby/restart, restart)
run cross epg
Hope you sort it
Got to parsing events on a blank screen for 20 mins nothing happened no epg. Help needed cheers
are you selecting and running the cross epg from the plugin menu?
How have you set up the epg?
Here's my settings;
EPG/settings location: /media/hdd
Cross EPG update rytec providers
Cross EPG update XEPGDB providers
Cross EPG ConfigureEnable CSV import (Yes), once a day, 04.20, show as plugin (yes), show as extension (yes)
Open TV providers (astra 2)
I run cross epg from the plugin menu
did you delete the file whilst E2 was stopped?
did you restart enigma before running cross epg?
No good tried everything is not having it...tried xmltv imported and it all loaded up.strange a new image has a basic problem like that.....nevermind spose it will be sorted

What box are you using & how are your tuners configured?
then once you've deleted the epg.dat file. Restart with init 3
Then restart box (menu, standby/restart, restart)
run cross epg
Hope you sort it
no need, the init 3 command is more than sufficient as it will reboot enigma, or use the init 6 command to fully reboot the receiver.
I have problem with latest 005 rel and crossepg 0.8, if I select rytec italy and I try to download from within the plugin interface crossepg goes in loop and continue to download and parse rytec italy files. If I use the downloader link in blue extensions crossepg doesn't download anything (rytec) like the zeus rel 001 problem. Any idea?
Thanks guys

Yes.
As I have stated many times before: Cross is good for Open-TV (i.e. Sky-UK/IT), not for imports.
If you want to import, use the XMLTV-importer instead. That does a good and thorough job.
So my setup is:
1- Cross set to use Open-TV (UK/IT 28.2E/13E); daily automated import at 03.00
2- XMLTV-importer for my other packages; daily automated import at 07.00 (must not be too early as the packages are only ready after approx 06.00).
Just checked on Zeus 005: all working fine.
Yes.

Ok, same config exactly for me but till 808 build crossepg imports worked fine now there are problems. Using opentv and xml import is redundant, they can do the same thing almost for italy. I know that it is a library problem of crossepg but do you think we can hope for a fix?
Thanks again

We can always hope (and sometimes pray) for a fix.
Cross is regularly being worked on, even last Saturday. So make sure you update your box.
And using redundant EPG sources is not a good idea: that can and will lead to double and conflicting entries. If Open-TV 13E works for you, that would be your best choice.
I was having a problem with updating the EPG but thanks tot he information in the thread all is now well. Just wanted to say thanks to everyone
vu solo...woke up this morning at 7 cross epg must have tried loading had a message saying loading data must have been trying for 3 hours strange as iv used crossepg for the last 2 years with no problems

Shouldn't make a difference & it's set to no by default anyway

I have the same issue on my Ultimo. If I delete all the saved crossepg files and epg.dat file (as described in various posts) from the USB, it works perfectly first time round. But do a second or subsequent download, it fails at the point of passing summaries as bobsilvio.
As a test (temp fix), I saved the crossepg files from Zues 001 and replaced the files (/usr/lib/enigma2/python/Plugins/Extensions/EPGSearch and /usr/crossepg) in both 005 and 006 with them and opentv works perfectly every time.
So I'm sure its fixable. Thanks andyblac

obviously it does because it dosnt work when set to yes for me & a poster above said set it to yes
