Proudly introduces a brand new ViX image for all OpenViX supported receivers.

http://i.imgur.com/kQXseE7.png

OpenViX Zeus requires a full reflash. You cannot update from OpenViX 3.0 or use a settings backup from any image prior to OpenViX Zeus. We have coded it so that you can't use a backup from an earlier image as it will cause issues if you do.

So what is different in OpenViX Zeus then ?

The main difference is core of the image or the OE (Open Embedded); this has undergone a lot of changes, updates and fixes. As a user you should not notice any differences between OpenViX 3.0 and OpenViX Zeus. (i.e. there are no real functional differences. But as the last release is now over 3 months ago, several updates have been implemented).

Features

AutoBouquetsMaker ( ABM )
Allows you to setup and automate the process of creating and maintaining a region specific channel bouquets for Sky (UK), Freesat (UK) and Sky Ireland (plus some European providers)

VIX EPG (includes CrossEPG 0.7.4)
Quite simply, OpenViX offers the best EPG experience of any Enigma2 based image bar none !!
Includes Graphical EPG, Text mode, Infobar EPG and Bouquet list graphical EPG modes

Video Playback
All EPG screens are now available while watching a recording, for easy switching back to live TV or setting timers.

Channel Selection
Support added to change font sizes and number of rows.
Support added to have a 3rd event showing (Skin dependent)
Support added to display start time and end time for all events shown.

Quick PiP-ZAP
Support added to open PiP directly via long-Up/Down. Also zapping in PiP can be done via long CH+/-.

EPG Selection
Added help screen to all epg selection screens.
Added support to change font sizes and number of rows.

Language Selection
Added English (UK) to available languages.

Translations
Added support for English (UK).

Sorting
You may now sort Menus, Settings and Plugin Browsers alphabetically.

Network Browser
Uses less memory duringscan.
Moved to new Setup Mounts screen.

Openwebif
New style webif now accessed using default port 80
Old style webif still available if required for use with certain PC signal meters and Fancontrol 2

About Screen
Added network info.

Plugins
As part of streamlining the image, removed NFS, AFP, Samba, OpenVPN, Inadyn, MiniDLNA & uShare from default image (can now be installed/de-installed through Network setup screen)

On Screen Hints
Now available as options are selected.

Instant Record
From channel list, EPG or current channel.

Enhanced Movie List Features
It is now optional to play next movie, when a movie reaches the end. Configure in menu of movie selection screen.

Known issues

Crossepg bug when running XEPGDB and XMLTV within Crossepg. The software will not successfully download data from these sources due to incompatibility of crossepg and newer libraries within OE2.

If you have a Technomate OE series receiver you will need to flash a new bootloader first before flashing Zeus to your receiver, once flashed you will no longer be able use a older ViX 3.0 series image unless you downgrade the bootloader, as always exorcise caution when flashing bootloader..

Could be because much is the same as vix 3.0 only splash is new and a few changes in the menu structure i noticed so far but colours look brighter too.

To be honest, we tend to let the image speak for it self. you just cant encapsulated all the work that goes into the image in a few screen shots.

Give it a try and see if its the one for you.

So what's the story behind the name 'Zeus' then?

Is it a good idea adding the quad plus image if the box hasn't been released yet? It may get confused with the original quad and cause someone some heartache.

Thanks to all involved with the image for all the hours of hard work. Looking forward to trying this out over the weekend.

providing users can read simple instructions the same as with the other gigablue HD Plus models, there should not be a problem.

depends on the receiver your using, each image contains the very latest version drivers available at the time the image was built.

To update this thread, Technomate TM-Twin-OE image has been temporarily removed due to bootloader issues, once fixed a new bootloader will be released and the image re-released.

I've also decided to remove the GB Quad-Plus image until we have sample units to pre-test the image.

Hi guys.

I've just reflashed to the new Zeus. It's painfully slow im afraid. I'm trying to change my settings and I've given up. It's shockingly slow at responding to button presses.

Sorry pal, Solo2.

Rob van der Does
11-03-14, 19:46
Well, if there's one box I've been testing with the new image-series, it's the Solo2. Nothing slow about it, no way.

Do you use the original R/C? Any conflicting light's in the neighbourhood?

Martincape
11-03-14, 19:48
Yea original remote. It's mainly when I'm trying to change the service width in the graphicalepg settings. I press the button then I get the spinning Vix logo, then about 10 seconds later it changes.

Rob van der Does
11-03-14, 19:49
You setup services & EPG correctly (and from scratch)?

Martincape
11-03-14, 19:51
Yep. All done from scratch. Flashed new image. Then ran ABM, then CrossEPG (took a long time to load at the end), then installed MgCamd 1.35a, now changing settings.

Few things I noticed:

1. When in Graphical EPG and with 'Channel preview mode' set to 'No', pressing exit will still revert back to the original channel instead of staying on the selected one.
2. Transcoding still doesn't work on the Solo2. Should it?

Regarding the post about remote responsiveness I haven't noticed any issues on the Solo2.

ad 2: should work, and does here. Please open a support thread if you can't get it to work.

First thanks to all the team for all your hard work.

Maybe a silly question so please forgive me, in the Gigablue SE image page: http://openvix.co.uk/index.php?dir=GiGaBlue-HD800SE/

should i install the openvix-zeus.001 via memory stick and then update via the set top box to openvix-zeus.002

or should I just install openvix-zeus.002 via the memory stick?

Thanks

Larry-G
11-03-14, 21:14
Either will suffice, if you already have build 001 on the receiver you can use the online update option, if you'r just getting around to flashing Zeus to the receiver, flash build 002 as it is a stand alone image in it's own rite.

Hello All,

Thanks for the hard work into the new image. I will install later on to my ET9000 - however, I know this may be a silly question, but not one that I am sure I know the answer to? Can I revert to my existing image build 808 if the new iamge by way of normal USB installation?

Thanks,

I've just installed Zeus 002 on my Solo2. I put an oscam bin in /usr/softcams and enabled it for autostart. All worked fine until I rebooted and then I got a bootloop.
This is the crash log

[SoftcamManager] AutoStart Enabled

Removing SoftcamManger.pyo means I can get the image to boot but then I lose all the VIX specific plugins.

Any ideas?

Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk

No. They have tried to stream line the image and as a result have only included what is necessary. This is good as it allows the user to choose which plugins they want keeping the image free from what other users may consider bloat.

This only works if you have setup a password and if there is no password on the box (default) then you won't be able to access it via Openwebif using Http authentication. Since you have essentially used a fresh image without any of your old settings you will need to configure a new password. You can set a password using 'passwd' via Telnet.

Works fine in Zeus 2

Tried it in 002 but no change. I will try again tomorrow.

Again, makes absolutely no sense?
While the downloads server is down, you can use a direct link, which cam do you want to download?

Does it have YouTube as standard installed like BH 2.0.9
We provide exactly the same YouTube version as BH, but you have to install HbbTV for that (available via the feeds).

Be advised: BH only makes images for VU-hardware, not for other makes. And this HbbTV version is only available for VU-hardware.

I've just installed Zeus 002 on my Solo2. I put an oscam bin in /usr/softcams and enabled it for autostart. All worked fine until I rebooted and then I got a bootloop.
Please install one of the softcams we provide. I use enigma2-plugin-cams-oscam_1.20.r8625_mipsel.ipk and have not observed any issues.

Removing SoftcamManger.pyo means I can get the image to boot but then I lose all the VIX specific plugins.

Obviously removing system-files is not harmless.....

I'd rather have the fast zapping (on press) back than having long press moves to get PIP zapping which I hardly use. The delay is very annoying.

I agree with that. The quality of the transcoded streams of the Solo2 is just usable for a (very small) telephone screen.

1. When in Graphical EPG and with 'Channel preview mode' set to 'No', pressing exit will still revert back to the original channel instead of staying on the selected one.

Doesn't seem to be related to the size of the screen - it judders regardless of whether I play it via VLC on a computer, an iPhone or an iPad. Sync of audio is also way out.

Timers and auto timers are in etc/enigma2 - FTP them to your PC, then FTP them to Zeus once flashed. Same doff cam files.

kill enigma first before transferring the timers.xml and autotimers.xml files to reduce the risk of corrupting them.

It's good that you can produce it too as others have said it's working. When you say it's not fixable does that mean it will remain permanently broken?

I have been doing some more experimentation today using build 002 with restored settings from 001. The reason transcoding wasn't working for me was because of the settings I was using.

Basically transcoding does work (technically)- to an extent. I have found it won't work unless you use port 80 for the Openwebif. Again, if Http authentication is enabled it won't work either whether you use port 80 or not. Bit of an awkward scenario as the purpose of transcoding is usually to enable you to stream with a poor connection outside of the network, but the fact you can't use any other port or password protect access makes it much less useful. I'm sure you guys are aware of this issue, but is it possible to fix?

Everything else seems to be functioning fine though :)

Just checking because if it's run on a system that does not need it, it can and will cause more problems than it could ever hope to fix. cacheflush should only ever be run on receivers that show clear evidence of suffering from the infamous memory leak issue, this only affects the Vu+ Duo and then only a very small proportion of Vu+ Duo's.

Hi,

I downloaded the right file for the Gigablue SE from here: http://openvix.co.uk/index.php?dir=GiGaBlue-HD800SE/

Extracted the zip file. Stuck the Gigablue folder file onto a FAT32 memory stick. Powered off the receiver and unplugged. Inserted USB stick into receiver and then on the menu screen it just said 'Boot' 'USB' 'Gigablue'. 'Conf' did not appear and thus I did not press the 'ok' button. Receiver continued to boot and opened up on the last station I was watching.

So I have followed the instructions (as far as I can tell) any ideas what is wrong please?

Thanks

Yes I was using swap on vix 3.0 (256mb on USB) and I have swap activated on Zeus also (256mb on USB). I noticed that on vix 808 the duo was actually using around 100mb of swap as well as box memory. But on Zeus it is using around 5mb.

What I am trying to say is that with Zeus the duo feel more snappy, Yes I understand Linux tries to use all the free/available ram, otherwise it is wasted. However for me I am seeing more free ram now. On 808 with previous vu drivers after 24hrs the free memory would be 10mb, and cached memory 6mb. Now the free is 30mb and cached is 10mb.

Yes, I agree that my duo seems to work very well with Zeus (.003 atm). However, the duo was especially unreliable when I started using usb tuners with openVix 3.0. I found that Cacheflush was an essential plugin to keep the memory leaks in check.

Now with Zeus I am still using Cacheflush and I am disinclined to turn it off...

Rob van der Does
13-03-14, 05:47
There's no point in even looking at 'free mem' and swap used. Not even very experienced Linux users can get any useful info from 'free'; they would use " cat /proc/meminfo " to get serious information.

This is not something we can change. The best advise seems to be to use VPN, which is a lot safer than a password anyway.
