Every time i try to run a software update the box shows this error/alert...

"A Background update Check is in progress. Please wait a few minutes and try again."

Any ideas?

Have tried reboot and deleted files in /var/lib/opkg/lists

I've had this issue on numerous occasions.

Usually a reboot of my router fixes it.

yes tried rebooting router, and powering off the box but still no luck :(

Your on the latest and last build for Vix 3.0 so you won't be able to update anyway. Vix 4.0 is in the process of being built and will be released soon, a fresh flash will be required

Mine is the same bud. We need to use a program like PuttY to telnet into the box and delete a file or something. Have read a similar problem before but can I hellers find it. lol

Delete all the files in "/var/lib/opkg/lists", reboot the box and try again.

Delete all the files in "/var/lib/opkg/lists", reboot the box and try again.

Had already tried that, doesn't fix it - files are recreated then 2 files are left at 0 bytes

files are recreated ...
Yes, that's the very idea.

...then 2 files are left at 0 bytes
That is an indication of a not (good) working internet connection.

Can you please telnet

ping www.world-of-satellite.com
and post the result?

Then the same question for you :)

As I suspected: the box can't reach WoS.
You already rebooted the router? Maybe try another DNS?

3 lines or so are sufficient.
If you stop pinging via 'control c' you'll see the statistics.

As I suspected: the box can't reach WoS.
You already rebooted the router? Maybe try another DNS?

hmm looks like i'm doomed - for reasons known only to itself my billion router won't change the settings when i change dns server info (currently set to googles dns 8.8.8.8 / 8.8.4.4

Update has always worked fine up till 48 hours ago and dns lookups work so I don't really see what the problem could be :-|

I am using a Netgear DGND 3700 v2 router and I changed it to the TalkTalk router I was given by my ISP and still doesn't work. I cant see how the problem is my end unless I am missing something. every time I try software update it says there is a background update check but I have disabled this option on the settings.Hope someone finds a cure and thanks for your help so far.

Might need to be reported to skin owner as I have a vu+solo2 and had that in to show a mate don't use it tho so left it in

But if two different set ups and box report same then when removed work proves something with skin

problems seems to be with the skin - it tries to update the skin from http://rossi2000.x10.mx/feeds/ but that account is suspended by the host

i've ftp'd and deleted the skin - but its still trying to d/l from the rossi2000 feed - what do i need to edit to stop that?

you need to delete the feed it self, FTP to /etc/opkg/ and delete the file named rossi2000-feed.

Dont worry it's nothing sinister just his feeds server is down for the time being, i'm sure he will repair it when he is able to.

You can also keep the skin and just delete the feed it will still work fine without it.

Yes, that's the very idea.

That is an indication of a not (good) working internet connection.

It turned out to be the host being suspended for the guy who created the blue hd skin...

do i put all that command in one line?
The idea was indeed to do the telnet command in one line (hence I gave it in one line).
Anyway: the problem was clear from your first screenshot.

if so then it gives an error
Well, we were looking for an error, weren't we :)

The problem was nothing to do with telnet / ping etc etc

The problem is that the hosting account for the blue hd skin i was using has been suspended ( http://rossi2000.x10.mx/ )so the update will always fail... skin removed problem solved

This issue is not unique to me anyone using this skin will have the same thing
