New drivers are public, initrd needs an adjustment by images coders but we can test.drivers that can fix dts problems. No news about transcoding or pink screens or cams yet

Thanks

I know your saying that the DTS-HD support is still not working Marty but did you notice a difference in zap speed and do your recordings still work?

Havn't tested that yet.

Zap speed doesn't seem any different to me (didn't think it was too bad anyway if I'm honest)
As for recordings old ones are OK, haven't made any new ones since putting on the new drivers.

Ah right, I'll give these drivers a go tonight. I've had major issues with recordings failing and sitting at zero on any driver later than the 2nd of November so it would be nice if this new driver resolves this.

I never found zap speed an issue either but if you use a solo 2 it definitely appears to zap quicker than the quad.

when i get home from work later it'll be the first thing i do :)

did you try different movies with dts-hd or just the one?

i cant see there being much difference between dts-hd tracks though, but i'll test a few movies to check it out. only 5.1 and 7.1 difference really. but i dont have a 7.1 setup.

I find the HD audio has more "depth/feel" to it, only got one movie to test at this time but it is DTS-HD (plays as DTS-HD via USB on my blueray player) The quad even says its DTS-HD (I'll get a screenshot in a mo)

I have a few 7.1 blurays, not a massive difference over 5.1 but you can tell there is a defference.

Amp just outputs DTS core. (HDMI and NOT SPDIF :p )

rossi2000
22-01-14, 13:44
ahh righty, atm i have about 30 or so movies to try.
when i download blurays i always kept the dts-hd track in for future usage as i can still play the dts core track from it for now.

before it wasnt detecting dts-hd but now it says dts-hd which suppose is a step in the right direction for once.

marty

now you say it says dts-hd which suppose is a step in the right direction for once.

It has always detected it as dtshd, just doesn't pass it on

How comes i can't see dts-hd when playing movies with a dts-hd sound track? is there a plugin or something i need to install? i'm using vix build 808 and gigablue-quad-drivers-3.3.8-2.0-20140120. I am also using HDMI to output the audio to my av reciever.

FWIW Init.rd is a compressed ramdisk used as part of the boot process for Linux. It is a core part of the boot process and is usually part of the bootloader

Same for me, I've never seen DTS-HD on movies I KNOW have HD soundtracks

I've had problems with the following since the combination of the latest drivers and VIX moving to a new core:

1. Audio sync problems
2. video auto-switching after playing a 24 fps video
3. Recordings failing

Did you suffer any of these, and if so, do you see any improvement with the new drivers?

[I'm currently away from home so can't test myself]

Your not using a ViX image with the new OE core that's ViX 4.0 which is not yet public.

I have four tuners in my quad. I'm running build 808.

If I install the latest drivers 20.01.14 I can record three programs all at the same time. If I then cancel these recordings and do the same test again the first program will record the last 2 recordings to be started will fail to record and the duration will stay at zero.

If I then reboot the box and try again the recordings will work the first time and then fail when the second attempt is made to record more than one program at a time.

If this is fixed in openvix 4.0 thats great I look forward to the public release if not I'll be sticking to my current configuration of build 808 with 02.11.13 drivers.

i doubt its anything to do with vix4, its the drivers.

margy82
23-01-14, 16:49
The problem is in drivers, openvix has nothing to do with that. That's a pity, no way for buing a new gb in the future. Terrible drivers support, no seriety by them.

I agree that it's the drivers what else could it be.

I don't think it's fair to say the driver support is terrible though as they have released a lot of updates and fixed all major issues. DTS-HD etc aren't essential for a satellite receiver they're more just nice to haves.

Look at the current Vu+ line up one of the main selling points of the solo and duo 2 is the transcoding facility and that has been broken for quite sometime (since vix build 760?)

I think I would be quite upset if I paid £510 for a duo 2 with quad tuners and I couldn't take advantage of the transcoding feature I'd be wondering if it was worth the £200 premium over the quad.

I still love the product and will probably buy a 800ue+ for the bedroom when the vix image for it becomes available.

You are writing about only one driver issue (fixed) against much more bugs, think about dvb-t usb or pink screens on some tp or about hbbtv or transcoding or corrupted flash or many others...it is not comparable.....

I don't use dvb-t so never had an issue so I guess there are people out there with issues I've never particularly experienced.

I never really had an issue with the lack of GBlan so never seen what all the fuss was about.

lol

Your missing the point, we PAID for it ;) if we want/need it or not is irrelevant :D
If you bought a 50" tv and opened the box and it was 42" you would feel "slightly" robbed

The GB boxes ARE VERY good  just let down by poor service :(

Maybe you need to read something about the "story" of gigabit lan on these stbs....I think you will change your opinion about gb seriety.....

many people think there ok just cos you can watch tv, granted yes its fine for that, but when you want a little bit more from it they fail at every hurdle.

no point in the fancy hardware just to watch tv.

Still not a single issue with my Quad, 3 DVB-S tuners & 1 DVB-T tuner.
Currently has only 2 28.2E feeds, so tuner A set as 28.2E, Tuner B set as loopthrough, Tuner C set as 28.2E, Tuner D set as disabled.
It sits above my Solo2 & is now used as the main box because of the extra recording options.
Can't fault it one bit & records pefectly using all recent ViX builds including 4.x test builds.
