Thinking about using a solid state drive for the permanent time shift. I already have an internal hard drive but previous experiences with time shift caused problems. Would the external sata drive need its own power source? Has anyone any experience with these?

I've never used an e-sata SSD drive, but have used an e-sata drive. All e-sata drives require power of some description, even e-sata sticks. If you think of a sata drive, it gets it's power through a sepeate power cable. Same is required for e-sata...
Personally though, I'd say that an SSD drive for timeshift is a bit over the top... Get a decent speed usb drive, and you'll be happy... Unless you really have that much money to spend :)
