Unable to update software

The green light is flashing to do software update but when I try to update it comes up with the message background update check in progress please wait a few mins and retry which I have done loads of times with no joy I did a restore to an older image but still unable to update I have a vu duo2 regards

Open an ftp session to your box..

/var/lib/opkg/lists

Delete all files in that folder..

Then try the update again..

or telnet : init 4 && opkg update && opkg upgrade && init 6

Also.. Next time you open a thread.. Please make sure to enclose the build number..

Thanks mate the build is now 804 was 802 as it let me restore that image which is the latest one I had.still no luck still same message the lists folder is now empty I have reset the box also and the green flashing light is no longer flashing
It's still saying background update checks in progress.
I have the automatic back up the image on should I turn that off.

I have just done the telnet as instructed no flashing green light but still the same background updates in progress message still on build 804
