View Full Version : MiniDLNA - not very reliable!

I updated my box a few days ago, now MiniDLNA won't start - autostart is enabled, I've restarted my box countless times, removed MiniDLNA and re-added but it will not start.

Is it just me having these issues? It just doesn't work well at all - refreshing is a nightmare (it won't refresh for days on end).

I know this is just included with VIX but the reliability of something I use daily isn't good.

Any advice? (Apart from re-flash as that's almost a weekly occurrence now for me)

You could try to install the DNLA fro the feeds (pluginbrowser --> green) and see if that's any better.

Sadly that did nothing - still shows as stopped and will not start. Getting very frustrated with openvix at the moment, reliablity is all over the place (along with an issue where a channel will show on the screen but the box will display "All Channels" - then you have to press stop to be able to do anything). I will (yet again) have to reflash to get it working :(

Well, I'm sorry to say that I'm a bit confused by your issues. Or better said: I have no idea what your issues are.
As I don't use DNLA myself I've set it up for testing purposes, and all worked 'out-of-the-box'. OK, true: I did install DNLA as I couldn't get the embedded mini-DNLA to work.

And other issues? Really no idea. But if you have to flash that often, it looks like you either mess up the setup by wrong settings, or let plugins do that for you.

Anyway my best advise is:
1- given your issues flash and don't restore. Start with a basic setup and use no plugins (apart from a softcam and setings). Use the box for a couple of days and then start slowly adding features as required.
2- ask for help on any issue you might encounter. Open a thread per issue and explain exactly what where when and how things go wrong.

Rob, have a look at this: https://github.com/oe-alliance/oe-alliance-core/commit/14066f8aea426b01905f84b543d1c5fc3d716ee4

I shall deal with my main issue here, which is the fact miniDLNA doesn't start now I've re-flashed the box.

I've flashed the latest VIX image (775) and started utterly fresh (apart from adding softcam) miniDLNA is the ONLY plugin I've enabled. Everything else is as stock.

MiniDLNA still will not start. I've rebooted the box, it shows as stopped and no matter how many times I click green to start, it doesn't start - even though autostart is enabled.

Do you think the link above sheds some light on this issue? I'm not sure how I'd solve this issue but it may be an answer to why it won't start.

Cheers.

Please update to build 778.

I will do that - are there any changes pertaining to miniDLNA in this version?

Many thanks.

It was wirth a try: I hoped that https://github.com/oe-alliance/oe-alliance-core/commit/14066f8aea426b01905f84b543d1c5fc3d716ee4 would have done the trick.

For whatever reason, when the box is fresh from a flash, miniDLNA isn't started but is enabled for autostart - it just seems like whatever you do, doesn't start the service.

I'll try a few commands through telnet to see if that kicks it in.

Thanks for your help and I hope we can get this licked, I use the dlna server daily :)

Just tried something - it didn't help but thought I'd post the output from telnet:

Whether the conffile changes make any difference, I don't know - but where does minidlna get started? What is the linux startup script?

I've also tried removing miniDLNA and installing DLNA Server - but that didn't work either!

I have one suspicion though .... Should anything show in the interface box on the miniDLNA config page? Mine is blank.....

Any other possible suggestions? Or should I try the developer direct?

I noticed an update in this area yesterday; that should be available in build 779.

Any idea of a release date on 779? I checked earlier and nothing was there.

Can I ask what it said regarding miniDLNA?

YIPEE!!

Whatever was released in 779 has done it, after an upgrade it now starts like a charm! Glad it wasn't just me and something that I had done wrong .... let's hope this is the solution to the issue.

Many thanks!
