View Full Version : [VU+ Solo2] Transcoding problem from build 760 onwards

Hi.

I recently flashed to the latest VIX build however I have noticed some changes to the transcoding plugin and functionality. Previously I was able to open a transcoded stream via the OpenwebIF using VLC player. However, now when I try to open the transcoded stream I receive the error:

'Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL (my DNS address/channel info etc). Check the log for details.'

The standard stream opens without a problem.

I have now done a test and reflashed to build 3.0.750 and it it works again. I currently use port 8002 for the transcoded stream and in the newest VIX build noticed there is 'channel port' and 'media port' setting. Perhaps it has something to do with that? I did mess about with it but VLC just wouldn't play the stream and got the same error as above.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Channels or Recordings ?, we think it is driver issues, i am in contact with Vu about this issue.

Channels streaming live. I don't think I tried any recordings. Glad you guys are aware of it though.

I have the same issue. I have tried

PC - VLC and get the same error.
Andorid VU+ Player stream does not start when using transcoding.

I know there is a new build so will try if its fixed

This also happens to me (on a Duo2 btw), but only if you have changed the webif port to anything other than 80 (mine is on 8000) Transcoding port is still 8002
Try pressing CTRL+M in VLC to open the log window, then press play again.
I get "HTTP/1.0 502 Bad Gateway". So transcoding only works with webif is set to port 80.. Doesn't matter what port transcoding is set to

indeed. same issue here since latest VIX (above 760).
Recordings are working but channels don't.

build 774 is not on the vix download. I have also change my webif port from 80 to another port. Will try with default port

Just wanted to double check some settings. What ports should be used for 'channel port' and 'media port' ? The original plugin only had 'Transcoding port'.

I have ports 8001, 8002 (for transcoding) forwarded and of course the webif port.

30005

What exactly is are the 2 setting highlighted above for?

Thanks!

Thanks, just wanted to double check that.

Well I'm still getting the same error on 775. Channel port set to 8002 just as on pre 760 builds.

Anyone else?

Did that just now and it solved the transcoding of recordings. Live channels still don't work.

By the way, there are new VU+ drivers out today.
According to the changelog, transcoding has been improved for Solo2 / Duo2.
I wonder what exactly the improvements are. Or are these just bugfixes thay don't want to mention?

Please try build 777 when it's available: that will tell you (and us) what has been improved.

I tried 776 this morning and got a crash when selecting the transcoding plugin. I have tried streaming live channels (not transcoded) on port 85 but it does not work. Will try 777 when i get home and test from there and post back if someone doesnt beat me to it.

ports 80 & 8001 are NOT allowed for transcode, as those are already used. you now HAVE to use port 8002 or higher.

check your firewall, although transcoding is not fully working , vu are still working on this.

I think you read my post wrong :)
Webif port is set to 8000
Transcoding port is set to 8002

But then it doesn't work, i get "bad gateway" when opening stream
If i set the webif to port 80, then i get the regular un-transcoded stream on port 8002

drivers are in a mess atm over streaming and transcoding.

AzZ
07-11-13, 14:27
Well I've not tried the latest version but it still doesn't seem to have fixed transcoding by reading the posts above.

Just wondering what has caused these issues? Was it the new video overhaul present from build 760, or is it down to Vu+ and their drivers? Maybe the old plugin from pre 760 can be used? I don't know all the technical aspects that goes into building an image but I wouldn't mind reading a detailed explanation of the problem and what may be causing it if anyone from VIX can be bothered explaning it. It would be interesting to see but it's your guys call.

Thanks for the update.

Is this fixed for you all? I've got webif on port 8003, transcoding 8002. If I try the first tv icon (on ipad with iOS7) I get message saying "the operation could not be complete", second icon shows "resource unavailable". I'm on the latest build and have tried a few different ports all with same results. Any help would be appreciated!

Andy, think there's a mis-understanding, I was referring to the web interface port which is by default 80. I have mine currently set to 85 and it doesn't stream over the net.

Please make sure that in the Open WEB-IF configuration the last line has been set to 'no'.
Windoes-PC using VLC & MediaPlayerClassis work fine here.

But again: try different settings in the transcoding plugin to see it that makes any difference.

zipo
22-11-13, 21:25
Yes it works with OpenWebif port set to 80, but on any other port, it's still broken.
It seems to me that transtreamproxy opens a connection to Openwebif somehow, and doesn't look at OpenWebif port settings. It just tries to connect to port 80, regardless of what you set OpenWebif port to.
Take a look at line 108 in "streamproxy.c" port seems like it's hardcoded to 80

106 struct sockaddr_in sin;
107 sin.sin_family = AF_INET;
108 sin.sin_port = htons(80);
109 sin.sin_addr.s_addr = inet_addr("127.0.0.1");
110 if (connect(upstream, (struct sockaddr*)&sin, sizeof(struct sockaddr_in)))
111 {
112 reason = "Upstream connect failed.";
113 goto bad_gateway;
114 }
115
116 snprintf(upstream_request, sizeof(upstream_request), "GET /web/stream?StreamService=%s HTTP/1.0\r\n%s%s\r\n", service_ref, xff_header, authorization);
117
118 if (write(upstream, upstream_request, strlen(upstream_request)) != strlen(upstream_request))
119 goto bad_gateway;

The weird thing is, the regular stream on port 8001 works fine, but transcoded on port 8002 does not

Still not working for me.

Just tried changing the webif port back to 80 as someone suggested but it didn't make a difference. I'm certain everything on my side is setup correctly and all necessary ports are forwarded etc. Just to clarify it's only live channels that will not transcode, recordings work.

Nope, that's not the case.
We tested the plugin and the latest drivers and transcoding isn't working at all now.
Since VU+ continues to make a complete mess of the transcoding for a year now, we decided to delete that functionality from our images until they bring out a proper fix.

Build 805 has this in now for testing. Tested on my Duo 2

Good. I wasn't able to reproduce any issues in that area. Only transcoding is fully f#^&#^d atm.

Installed drivers released today by vu+

Can get it to transcode on my ipad with blackbox that wasn't working before at all. However I have noticed that if you stop a transcoding stream and choose another you get no sound. If you close the app down and choose the stream you get sound on the first stream. Choose another and you lose sound. Could of course be a bug with black box. I did try it on istreamgate on my iPhone and get a picture but no sound at all.

However, no luck on my pc with vlc 2.12 or mpc - hc using open webif

I have an issue with transcoding on my solo2
Solo2 does the quick flash of screen and in VLC it shows as bold as connected. However no picture/audio comes through. Using build 3.0.802 and its a fresh install as I got it for Xmas

Hi Everyone!

I have been following this thread as obviously we are all experiencing the same issue. I can get streaming to work to My Android / Ipad and PC no issue but as everyone else transcoding just won't work.

I appreciate everyones hard work to fix this and just wanted to says thanks and hopefully it will be cracked soon!

The 24/12 drivers fixed transcoding for the DUO2, but not for the Solo2.

I had it working, updated to latest vix build and now it is not working on phone or PC. The erro on VLC PC is "VLC is unable to open the MRL 'http://192.168.1.115:8002/1:0:1:283D:7FE:2:11A0000:0:0:0:'. Check the log for details."
What I have noticed is that on my solo2 it shows up REC on the display, which I presume is recording, even though I have no recording/timeshift on.
Maybe this has something to do with it? Sometimes VLC will show it in bold on playlist yet I get no picture after a few seconds

On the Solo2 you can only change the bitrate and the framerate.

Delvey

Thanks. Seems a little daft to have a low resolution. It's fine for a mobile device but for a tablet or laptop it's way too low

Rob van der Does

At present there is a huge flaw in the Solo2 drivers. As a result of that the resolution of the transcoded stream is (or appears to be) very low.
We are awaiting a driver fix for this from VU+.

Hello everyone,

I'm new here on the forum and in the receiver world.
I allready passed some obstacles the past weeks, but for the moment I'm stuck on the same problem as you guys have here.

Everything was working fine, external streaming with transcoding thru port 8002. With webif port on 20443 on https, no problem!
Unfortunately at this time it doesn't work anymore.

The normal stream on port 8001 still works, but the transcoded one on port 8002 doesn't at all.
I get the same error logs in VLC: " error 502 bad gateway" also the blackbox app on ipad or other app's on android are broken.

Anyone has found a solution yet?

Thanks in advance!

Rob that VU transcoding issue is there for ever.
Any chance that someone can find what VU are doing through the distributor / sales channel.
Surely the distributer / importer has access to VU to find out when a solution is due...

VU still have the nerve to say on their website that the DUO2 supports transcoding when it really never did.
They might as well say it runs without electricity !!!

Surely WOS have access to someone that can give a formal update / response....

I have also created a thread here (http://www.world-of-satellite.com/showthread.php?34898-Openvix-3-0-808-Transcoding-BUG) where the transcoding feature in the DUO2 in openvix 808 is also broken. Do you think it might be related to the same driver issue or is it something else?

Many thanks

But you'll have to install them manually or await the next build.

No, but if you located them at the correct location, thereby overwriting the existing ones, and rebooted the box there's no way the box could hold other drivers then the ones you've installed.

BTW: In the meantime we've been working on transcoding and the Android VU-Player as well. Things look pretty good now, but you'll have to await a next release.

Thanks for a quick reply. I was thinking more of a 'previous' version where it worked like 790, before it started going berserk, but if there is a test-version in rotation then I'll just wait as newer is always better.
