Keeping External HDD on all the time

Hi,

Is it advisable to keep the external HDD powered on all the time to avoid frequent initializations.

Some suggested that keeping it on all the time might damage it.

It's all a pinch of salt. Some people say that keeping it on all the time wears it down quicker, since it's constantly spinning then, so will die quicker, others say that the constant start up and stopping of the drive makes it die quicker... So, take your choices ;)
