View Full Version : artefacts when recording starts/stops on second tuner

quite a few people seem to have problems with artefacts when a recording starts/stops using the second tuner.
the problem seems to show up only with quad-lnbs (maybe just a few brands).
some people were sucessful in circumventing the problem by inserting an external multi-switch.
is there any other (cheaper/easier) circumvention for this problem?
thanks.
p.s. the problem also exists on at least duo and ultimo as well.

The no such issue with any of the VU+ models using the second tuner. If your getting issues check your LNB/Feeds etc...

well, when you read other forums you will realize that there is.
the vu+ doesn't seem to work well together with some quad-lnbs. other receivers don't have those artefact problems with the same lnbs.
so?

For every single STB it is possible to find switches (or LNB's or HDD's or USB-sticks) that are not 100% compatible (Dreamboxes are famous for this).
It's always the question if it's the fault of the STB or of the switch.
In the end the answer isn't that important: one of the two will have to be exchanged in case of problems.

i agree.
the question was, whether there was a circumvention for the problem. the problem seems to be caused by switching on/off the power of the second lnb.
so, maybe it would help to leave the lnb powered on. or maybe soldering in an additional capacitor might help. or something else.
you understand what i mean?
obviously the ultimate solution is to buy a different lnb or stb. just wanted to check whether there was a circumvention before i do that.
thanks.

You might give the 'Satellite Equipment Control' plugin a try.

thanks. tried it, but there doesn't seem to be a parameter that sounds like it could circumvent the problem.

thanks. tried it, but there doesn't seem to be a parameter that sounds like it could circumvent the problem.
Well, I see two:
- delay after last voltage change
- delay after toneburst

and maybe
- delay after final continous tone change

hi, thanks.
i played a bit with the parameters, but no change :-(

Well, it was worth a try.
So a new LNB it is then?
Or a new STB?

yes, it was worth a try. thanks again.
it will be a new lnb... once i find out which one cooperates best with the solo2.
i need a quad lnb (no external switch).
currently i have one from inverto (don't remember the model).
any suggestions?

Nope, sorry. Your report is the very first in this area I ever read.

just wanted to report back that the problem is gone with a duo2 using the very same quad-lnb.
so it's a solo2 unique problem.

I had a similar thing using a solo2 and a duo2 on a Technomate octo lnb, every time a tuner kicked in on the duo2 the solo2 picture or recording would glitch, the other way round the duo 2 would totally lock up if a tuner kicked in on the solo2, after swapping the lnb for a zinwell octo lnb the problem disappeared and the solo2 and duo2 existed together fine.

just wanted to report back that the problem is gone with a duo2 using the very same quad-lnb.

it's been a while... but the very same problem also appeared on the duo2.
i changed the quad lnb, but the problem persisted.
so i finally put a 4/6 multi-switch between lnb and box, and the problem is finally gone.
