FTP would be the best way as your HDD will be formatted to a linux format ( ext3 / ext4 ). Pc's can't natively read linux formats.

ftp sounds a lot easier to me rather than removing the hdd.

FTP simplest, but can take time if you have a lot of data to transfer.

One idea is to put all your music on USB stick and leave that permanently plugged into the VU. You can easily remove the USB stick to add new music when needed. And you can leave it in FAT32 format so it is always compatible with your PC.

If samba has been installed you can also use Windows Explorer to copy files.

I did it via FTP and worked well. I have samba installed but not sure how to use. Will have to have a look at stickies. What is the best music player to use??

yamp or the merlin music player seem to be popular ones although they wont really add any more functionality over the inbuilt media player other than a nice looking GUI.

You don't explicity use Samba; if it's installed your STB will show in Windows Explorer (under 'Network') so you can simply drag & drop.

IMHO YAMP, but you'd better choose yourself what you like.

The build-in player has one flaw: it doesn't understand play-lists. Most (if not all) other players do.

Nope, nothing special; the STB should show under network.
