I have an Onkyo remote (from TX-616) that is a learning remote. I'd like to use it to contol the Vu+ box as it is already set up to control other AV equipment eg it controls the Sky Box. Anybody have an idea on remote codes to input?

R/C codes? You say it's a learning R/C!

I know what you mean - it's described by Onkyo as a learning remote - but it doesn't work like a Harmony. I believe it's possible to programme keys with Hex keys ... too complicated. It is meant to control other AV equipment with a simple RC code though.

Then Onkyo is rather misleading.
Anyway: you should ask Onkyo for the code, as only they will know what codes they have hidden in their not-learning-R/C.

What ever you are trying to use remote for the device and make go to them for example code for LG tv is 1628 got it from LG website.

There is no standard for this. So a device may have code xxxx for R/C 1 and yyyy for R/C 2

Thanks for the replies. I only asked the original question because Onkyo does not publish any rc code for the Vu+. They do publish a list of several hundred receivers, so maybe the Vu+ is too esoteric for them. Still looking for a code if anyone has any experience of my setup.

Or just buy a Harmony and bin the Onkyo remote....

LOL, I didn't want to say that, but indeed: that's the real solution.
I never ever use a device R/C.

you dont need the codes you can read the manual and look there how its done push some buttons on the onkyo remote and put the remote of the vu and the remote of onkyo in 1 line and then the onkyo remote is programmed
