I am using a hauppauge wintv (if that's the correct spelling) on a Duo (not Duo2). I am based in Ireland so not sure of comparability for your local.

Can check model number later if you like?

sorry for hijacking please can someone recommend a VIX compatible USB tuner for terrestrial?

I have two usb dvb-t dual tuners (as per my signature below). The Hauppauge WinTV Nova TD (DIB0700 chipset drivers) works well with both the Duo and the Duo2. The Avermedia Twinstar (AF9035 chipset drivers) currently works well with the Duo but is not detected with the Duo2. I'm not sure why the Duo2 doesn't 'get on' with the Twinstar (the Duo2 firmware is still getting lots of changes?). These tuners do not support dvb-t2.

Cheers

Not sure what sort of restriction your expecting? But I too am in the UK, as well as many others on here who have used one of these, and we have no problems...

I think it was the first that allowed dvb-t2 reception, so probably why it was so popular in UK, so we could all receive hd channels from freeview with it...

I understand that the A867 works for the more established VU+ models under Vix. However, I would be surprised if it works with the Duo2, since my A825 (Twinstar dual usb dvb-t) which is also based on the AF9035 chip doesn't. However, I don't have an A867 to try out.

Does Anyone Know If The Vu+ Duo Can Handle 5 Tuners??? 2 Internal, 2 USB Terrestrial, 1 USB Satellite...

I have a Duo2 with 3 internal tuners (dual dvb-s2 + dvb-c/t) and 2 external tuners (Hauppauge Nova-TD dual dvb-t) running happily on OpenVix 3.0.750. This covers your query of 5 x tuners... no problem.

Ideally I would like to add another dual dvb-t usb device (= 2 external tuners). Vu+ has recently revised their firmware for the Solo2 and Duo2 to suppport a maximum of 4 x external tuners (vtuners). So in theory it might be possible to have eight tuners (4 x internal + 4 x vtuner). I know that some (maybe all?) Vix skins have been modified to support 6 x tuners. This doesn't stop the 7th and 8th tuners but would mean that their tuner info would not be visible in some areas.

The Vu+Duo is limited to a maximum of 2 x vtuners (eg usb). Therefore you could not have 5 x tuners (==> 3 x vtuners).

This is normal behaviour, until you zap to a channel on another transponder/frequency.

You are right that the web site says out of stock but what I did was ring them up and ask them to check individual stores stock. I found that Reading store for example had two for sale and I snapped one up. The trick is to be persistent and try as many stores of PC World/ Currys as you can.

I've tested the DVB-S2 (dw2102) tuner mentioned above. After zapping a bit (2-3 times are enough) there's no video/audio output anymore, screen stays black. Receiver remains responsive. This is with a Unicable LNB, the Sundtek DVB-S2 does not have this problem.

I have 2 fixed 28.2E and 1 motor.

The motor is on the internal B tuner and boxes uses and records subby channels from the C USB tuner. Not had any issues with it whatsoever

DaMacFunkin
14-11-13, 20:28
Its because i use C as my main that it tends to go to sleep if tuned to a fta channel for a length of time, or in soft standby, usually needing a reboot, if i could set my tuner priority as A,C,B i wouldn't have a problem, but what we found with main tuner set to 'A' was if we was watching say BBC1, and emmerdale and then coronation street started to record, we couldn't then access the motorised on 'B' without canceling the recordings or waiting for them to end :-(
Like i said you dont notice it because 'C' is only used for some recordings, what it needs is the ability to set A,C,B or for the USB port driver to stay awake, and not going to sleep because we aint zapping the channel.

I have tuner A set as fixed 28E, tuner B as motorised, and tuner C as fixed 28E, with record priority set to (auto) and have no issues at all.

Tuner A is main one when watching stuff then if recording something it always starts with tuner A then if another recording starts then tuner C steps in then if I need to turn channel or another recording starts tuner B steps in.

So how come it doesn't choose b for the second recording, that doesn't make sense unless you are actually tuned to b or 28.2 is disabled on b?
Ps if you are watching one transponder on A and a recording starts surly it has to choose another tuner unless both the programs are on the same transponder.

My mistake I was referring to a recording when the box is asleep, tuner A always first. Then C then B.

If I were watching say bbc1 it would be tuner A I was using, if a recording starts on itv tuner C would step in for the recording. Then if another recording starts on discovery tuner B will step in.

Don't know why it does this this way round, tuner B is motorised and set up for all sats available to me.

Maybe this is because most of the time my motor is pointing at another satellite and the box makes the decision to go to tuner C as it's faster.

Nope.
When set to 'auto' the box will always (try to) use the tuner with the least number of satellites. And that isn't always the wisest choice, but there is no intelligence involved (such as looking into the timerlist to see if a recording is imminent. Or even better: use a motorised dish for live-TV).

Sirius

Yep. As per my signature, my vuduo has the setup you propose. my vuduo2 has two dual tuners (usb) and three internal tuners. All works well.

Yep. It should be okay with Solo2 which can suppport up to 4 x vtuners (eg usb tuners). You just need to find a compatible usb dual tuner. Solo2 and Duo2 use the same kernel version, so the Hauppauge Nova TD (sometimes called Duet) should work. There are quite a lot of usb dual tuners and I cannot guarantee any except the one I have used. (Note that the Avermedia Twinstar doesn't work on my Duo2 and probably won't work on the Solo2 under Vix 3.0). These tuners I have experience with support only dvb-t and so would not cover UK broadcasts (because they are dvb-t2 I believe).

I used a nova t on a Duo. Drivers were in feeds - DVD-USB-dib0700. You could try these. Install and reboot.
