How can i enlarge my pic slightly, so that i can remove the lines at the the top of the screen on the left.

You can't. It's the contents maker/provider who has done a sloppy job.

You'll notice that only a small number of productions on some channels suffer from this.

The only suggestion I can make is that you adjust your TV/monitor to include a small amount of zoom. However, not all TVs have this facility.

And that would ruin HD-quality, as all screen pixels will then show 0,9x video-pixel. Then having that half line on some productions is preferable.
In the end one learns to ignore it.

Thanks Rob, now i wont be wasting anymore time thinking its a setting issue. Worst case.. i always got some thin electrical tape ;)

yeah it's annoying but it's this or reactivate overscan and end up loosing upto 6 inches viewable screen area as a result.
