Pay as you go sim

Is any body aware of any pay as you go sim, that DOESN'T require a monthly top up?
I want to give an old Nokia to my son, for when he walks home from school on the odd occasion, for emergencies.
So if I put £10 on it, it'll last until it runs out, however long that is.

Could try Giff Gaff, you can put credit or minuets on (goody bag) it's totally up to you. Also you get free calls and texts to other giff gaff users just as long as you put at least £5 credit on every 3 month.
